At Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and Exhibitions India Group wrapped up a successful first day of the ’29th Convergence India and 7th Smart Cities India 2022 Expo,’ India’s largest Tech and Infra Expo. Nitin Gadkari, India’s Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, officially opened the Expo.

The three-day expo will feature over 800 firms and over 100 start-ups, as well as representatives from various government ministries, public sector organisations, and smart cities. The event was planned in accordance with the COVID-19 standard, assuring a safe and seamless experience for all attendees.

Kaushal Kishore, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India; Shri Vibhu Nayar, IAS-Executive Director of ITPO; Sandeep Narula, Chairman, Electronics & Computers Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) India; Mr. Gurmeet Singh, Executive Director, ESC India; and Chandrika Behl, Managing Director, Exhibitions India Group addressed the audience at the opening.

The first day of the conference was jam-packed with 12 high-powered conference sessions featuring more than 30 thought leaders. Day 1 of the expo featured a series of keynote talks and panel discussions with noteworthy dignitaries from many sectors, in addition to housing a variety of technology-redefining firms under one roof. The discussions focused on the preparedness of 5G in India versus its actuality, the rise of the OTT industry in the region and its impact on growth, the future of Indian cities, and speeding the modal shift to public and shared transportation systems.

“A fragmented approach to building smart cities is not a visible approach; we must strive to make whole cities smart,” said Kaushal Kishore, Minister of State, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, at the inauguration. Smart Cities’ aim includes more than just building infrastructure; it also includes the goal of making each individual self-sufficient. The term “smart city” encompasses not only infrastructure, electricity, and housing, but also rising household income levels. “We are pleased to see an event like this provide a forum for such discussions.”

Exhibitions India Group’s Managing Director, Chandrika Behl, said, “After a sabbatical, we’re back with a physical event, and we’re excited to welcome industry heavyweights to the expo.
