Day 1 of the expo featured a series of keynote talks and panel discussions with noteworthy dignitaries from many sectors, in addition to housing a variety of technology-redefining firms under one roof. The discussions focused on the preparedness of 5G in India versus its actuality, the rise of the OTT industry in the region and its impact on growth, the future of Indian cities, and speeding the modal shift to public and shared transportation systems.

“I’m incredibly satisfied with the Smart Cities India and Convergence India 2022 expo and convention,” Nitin Gadkari remarked of the event. It will make a significant contribution to our vision of a new India’s development. I admire the expo’s vision for India’s smart cities, especially the fact that we are aiming to bring India up to international standards. I recognise the importance of the industry and the fair organisers, and I send my best wishes to everyone.”

“A fragmented approach to building smart cities is not a visible approach; we must strive to make whole cities smart,” said Kaushal Kishore, Minister of State, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, at the inauguration. Smart Cities’ aim includes more than just building infrastructure; it also includes the goal of making each individual self-sufficient. The term “smart city” encompasses not only infrastructure, electricity, and housing, but also rising household income levels. “We are pleased to see an event like this provide a forum for such discussions.”

Exhibitions India Group’s Managing Director, Chandrika Behl, said, “After a sabbatical, we’re back with a physical event, and we’re excited to welcome industry heavyweights to the expo. Convergence India and the Smart Cities India Expo have created an ideal platform for brands to display their work and network across technology, innovation, and everything smart and sustainable. We’re grateful for the opportunity to get back on the ground and develop an ecosystem of possibilities.”

The Digital Transformation Conclave, the City Leaders Conclave, the Future of Startups in India, and sessions looking at development through a gender lens, with discussions on “Women in Tech” and “Future for Female Founders in Startups,” Day 2 has an equally powerful and exciting line-up of thought leaders and knowledge sessions.
