Samir Surlaker, Director of Assess Build Chem, received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” at NWC 2024 for his pioneering contributions to waterproofing, building chemicals, and professional mentoring over the past 45 years.

On the sidelines of the National Waterproofers Conference 2024 (NWC 2024), Samir Surlaker, Director, of Assess Build Chem Private Limited, was honoured by the Waterproofers Association of India (WAI) by receiving the most coveted “Lifetime Achievement Award” at the Le Meridien Gurgaon on September 26th, 2024.

Mr. Surlaker received this honour in recognition of his contributions to Concrete Technology, Construction Chemicals, and, most notably, Waterproofing, Repair, and Rehabilitation. The citation for his prize also states, “As a mentor to hundreds of waterproofing professionals, Mr. Surlaker has shared his vast knowledge and experience, inspiring many to reach new heights in their careers. His leadership and vision have guided the industry toward adopting modern, effective solutions for waterproofing challenges.”

Samir Surlaker is a Civil and Structural Engineer at VJTI with over 45 years of international expertise in concrete, construction chemicals, concrete repair and protection, injection systems, and waterproofing throughout Europe, Asia, and India. Mr Surlaker pioneered the cause of manufacturing construction chemicals in India with a German joint venture in the mid-1980s.

He co-authored the Handbook of Advanced Concrete Technology and the ICI Handbooks on Admixtures, Waterproofing, and Industrial Floorings. He is a member of both the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the IRC B-8 Committee for Bridge Repairs and Rehabilitation. He is the chairman of the CIDC Codes Committee on Waterproofing, Repairs, and Rehabilitation.

In addition to this award, Er. Samir Surlaker already received the coveted CIDC Vishwakarma Award in the category of “Industry Doyen” in recognition of his 45 years of service in the Construction Chemicals (CC) Industry. He received numerous accolades, including the ACCE Gourav Award, the Outstanding Contribution to Concrete Technology Award in 2005 (ICI), and the ICI Outstanding Concrete Engineer Award, among others.
