“I don’t see any major upswing in the demand of the crushing and screening equipment but definitely it is better than 2014. So after two consecutive years of drop in demand, by almost 30 per cent each year, this year we have a marginal increase in demand and it’s heartening. The enquiry level for crushing and screening equipment has gone up substantially and we hope that the trend will continue, but again there will not be any sudden surge in demand,” said Viraj Parthi, Country Manager, Terex India Pvt Ltd while sharing his views on the current market trends of crushing and screening equipment.

Procurement factors
Talking about the major buying factors a buyer should consider before making a decision of buying crushing and screening equipment, Viraj observes, “It varies from application to application. Apart from the capital cost, two factors are most important in my view. Firstly, the availability of the equipment and secondly, the capability of the operating team to get the maximum output from your plant. Terex is working on both these aspects and investing heavily on its aftermarket team.”

Terex has started two more spares warehouses apart from its existing warehouse in Hosur with a plan for two more in near future. “The idea is not only to make the parts available in shortest time possible but also help the customer to reduce its inventory. The focus is also on having smart stocking of spares as per the requirement of different geographies. We have also increased our aftermarket team significantly having a presence across the country,” Viraj informed.

Terex has also started a training school in Hosur for operating team where the company provides operating and technical training free of cost. Since its inception in January this year, almost 193 persons have attended this training program.

Procurement decision drivers
Speaking about the factors driving the procurement decision making apart from pricing, productivity and durability, Viraj says, “For the procurement of crushing and screening equipment, a major role is played by the customer’s confidence upon the aftermarket support as it is the backbone of any project and the customer cannot afford to have it under breakdown for longer period.”

Again, the cost per tonne of the product also plays a very major role. “Terex Finlay offers a lot of unique features which not only gives higher productivity at lower cost but also helps in quick diagnosis of any problems,” Viraj claims.

Rental model yet to mature
Focusing on renting or buying crushing and screening equipment, Viraj says, “The rental model is not very mature as far as crushing and screening equipment is concerned, but recently a lot of bigger road contractors have shown interest in the rental model or an end to end solution provider for aggregate. The idea is to work upon their core-competencies. It is very difficult to say when to go for rental and when to buy. It depends upon the viability of project, the financials and the long-term plan.”

Terex product range
Terex Finlay offers advanced mobile crushing and screening equipment in India manufactured locally. “There are a lot of unique features which makes Terex Finlay a leader in the mobile crushing and screening equipment market,” said Viray. “On technical features among few, the Terex Finlay C-1540 cone crusher features a number of major benefits including hydrostatic drive, rapid set up time, high reduction ratio, high output capacity and advanced electronic control system.”

While the Terex Finlay J-1175 Jaw Crusher comes with a unique feature of reversible operation for cleaning blockages, Terex also offers fully hydraulic adjustable closed side option in addition to hydrostatic drive and advanced electronic control system.
