ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has introduced two premium products — Optigal Prime and Optigal Pinnacle — within its flagship color-coated steel range, Optigal. This strategic decision significantly expands the company’s options in the Indian market, particularly in the premium class, with products that meet European standards for corrosion resistance and performance.
With these releases, AM/NS India hopes to improve its position in the color-coated steel industry, focusing on high-end infrastructure and construction projects. Modern airports, railway stations, motorways, and large-scale commercial structures all require high-quality materials to ensure long-term durability and attractiveness.
Colour-coated steel is a versatile material that is commonly used in building, home appliances, furniture and transportation. Its popularity is growing because of its durability, aesthetic value, and high resistance to weathering. JSW Steel, Tata Steel, and Essar Steel are now the biggest companies in the Indian steel market. With the introduction of Optigal, AM/NS India enters a new market segment: high-quality C4 speciality steel, which was previously unavailable in the country.
According to Ranjan Dhar, Director and Vice President of Sales and Marketing at AM/NS India, the company is the only local producer of this advanced grade of steel. The items are in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s objective for rapid infrastructure development under the ‘Viksit Bharat’ initiative. AM/NS India aims for a 25 percent market share in the colour-coated steel industry, which is currently estimated at 3.4 million tonnes and expanding at a steady 10 percent per year.
Optigal Prime was designed for urban and moderately corrosive conditions. It has a 15-year warranty and finishes such as Silicon Modified Polyester (SMP), Super Durable Polyester (SDP), and PVDF. It is ideal for roofing, wall cladding, and other construction applications where both durability and aesthetics are crucial.
On the other hand, Optigal Pinnacle is designed for industrial and coastal environments and comes with a 25-year warranty. Its sophisticated PU/PA coatings are highly resistant to moisture, UV radiation, and harsh temperatures. This makes it an excellent choice for demanding applications such as airports, warehouses, and structures near marine environments.
The company has already received its first order for the new products, albeit the amount was not disclosed. AM/NS India will provide six specialist varieties of Optigal Prime and Pinnacle to fulfil a wide range of requirements, including high gloss, anti-dust, anti-graffiti, anti-static, anti-microbial, and cool roof choices. These versions are manufactured with cutting-edge zinc-aluminum-magnesium technology, which provides corrosion resistance up to three times stronger than traditional coatings.
These items are designed with sustainability in mind and promote the ‘Make in India’ concept. They are environmentally benign, emitting low volatile organic compound (VOC) levels, free of heavy metals and hexavalent chromium, and recyclable, making them perfect for future-ready and environmentally responsible construction projects.
Optigal products are manufactured at AM/NS India’s cutting-edge facilities in Pune, Maharashtra. The plant’s present production capacity is 700,000 tonnes per year, with intentions to increase to 1 million tonnes shortly.
While the first focus will be on satisfying domestic demand, AM/NS India is willing to explore export potential, particularly in West Asian markets, as demand grows.
