AM/NS India has demonstrated its commitment to Viksit Bharat 2047 and India’s journey towards self-sufficient, future-ready infrastructure by supplying over 32,000 metric tonnes of high-performance steel designed for extreme altitudes and seismic situations.

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) proudly strengthened its position in India’s infrastructure development by delivering vital steel for two of the country’s most iconic railway bridges. The Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway bridge, used 70 percent flat steel, while the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, used 100 percent steel.

The dedication of the historic Anji and Chenab bridges by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is an important step towards realising the Viksit Bharat vision by 2047. These engineering wonders genuinely demonstrate India’s willingness and ability to create a new tomorrow. AM/NS India is humbled and happy to have contributed to these critical infrastructure projects by supplying world-class steel, which will propel India ahead.

AM/NS India supplied 25,000 MT of high-strength structural steel, making nearly 70% of the total steel used in the Chenab Bridge. This includes specialist steel grades for distinct components, high-strength steel for the arch, and bespoke grades for the pillars, which was accomplished for the first time in India on this scale. The steel was manufactured at the company’s flagship Hazira factory under strictly regulated conditions and subjected to rigorous quality checks by third-party organisations. These efforts ensured that the material was durable, rust-resistant, and appropriate for the bridge’s great altitude and seismic zone.

AM/NS India supplied about 7,000 metric tonnes of custom-fabricated steel structures for the Anji Khad Bridge, accounting for 100 percent of the bridge’s steel requirements. The steel was manufactured at the Hazira factory and suited to the bridge’s specific structural and environmental requirements. To ensure durability and longevity, the steel was made under controlled conditions and inspected by third-party authorities with strict quality standards. The fabrication was completed almost entirely in-house, with additional facilities to accommodate the design’s complexity.

With Precision Planning and Agile Execution, AM/NS India implemented several enhancements to enhance precision execution. This included optimising production planning across its facilities to meet specific requirements and timelines, as well as implementing agile supply chain management to manage potential disruptions and maintain material flow.

These contributions demonstrate AM/NS India’s unwavering commitment to nation-building and capacity to offer complicated, high-performance steel solutions in difficult circumstances.

On the success of completing two of India’s Greatest Rail Engineering Marvels, Ranjan Dhar, Director and Vice President, Sales & Marketing, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), says, “This initiative by AM/NS India stands as a true testament to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’. The Chenab and Anji Khad Bridge is not just an engineering marvel but a symbol of India’s advancing self-reliance and industrial strength. Our contribution to this landmark project reflects our deep alignment with the national development goals championed by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

He adds, “Despite the formidable logistical and infrastructure challenges posed by the remote and mountainous terrain of Jammu & Kashmir, we ensured seamless delivery and execution. By harnessing our capabilities and collaborating with both public and private stakeholders, we are not just building infrastructure; we are shaping a more self-reliant and prosperous India.”
