“It’s time that the Indian industry breaks the ice and takes a leap of faith to endorse automation in warehousing industry,” observes Vishal Tickoo, Manager – Sales & Marketing, B M Techno Machines
Warehousing industry has evolved over the years due to the evolving nature of the goods stored in the warehouse right from food grains, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Fast Moving Consumer Durables (FMCD), to industrial goods and industrial spares. The variety of SKUs being offered by companies has also compelled them to make to stock. That’s why there has been an increasing demand of the warehousing facilities over the years.
With the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to be implemented soon, a rise in the demand from warehousing industry is to grow further. It may so happen that companies may opt for larger warehouses as well as smaller warehouses fundamentally like Hub & Spoke model where big warehouses will feed the smaller warehouses. Since taxation won’t be a problem now if goods move from one state to another state. The rise in warehousing can happen geographically or demographically as well or for that matter depending upon the industrialisation of the region or an area.
The warehousing industry has moved from stacking to racking over a period of time. Material handling has become a critical element in this context. Material handling has conventionally been done by manual trolleys, pallet trucks, stackers, forklifts etc. Due to the increase in the warehouses specifically bigger warehouses, it really becomes important the way material handling is done there. Based on the demand of the warehousing industry, BM Techno Machines has indigenously developed Automatic Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS) for the warehousing industry.
Automation has been the company’s forte and it has developed automatic machines for stacking of natural stone in an oven. The concept is much similar to that of the ASRS. Going forward ASRS would eventually bring a revolution the way warehousing has been done in India for years.
Warehouses across the western world are already using advanced techniques which help them use supply chain management fundamentals like Risk Pooling and Cross Docking efficiently. It’s time that the Indian industry breaks the ice and takes a leap of faith to endorse automation in warehousing industry.
Advantages of Automatic Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS)
• High storage density• High operational speeds
• High rise warehouses• Less land utilisation
• Real time inventory management
• Reduced manpower and damages
• Increased inventory accuracy
• Increased warehousing efficiency
• Increased variety of goods stored.
• Interface with ERP
• Better returns on leased warehouses.
