B2B Genie unveils materials to slash carbon footprint in construction
By Staff Report | December 27, 2024 6:38 pm SHARE
By launching products that reduce cement usage by 20–30 percent and optimising transportation logistics, B2B Genie drives down CO2 emissions and cuts waste. Their new initiatives aim to reduce India’s construction-related carbon emissions by millions of tons annually, showcasing a future-forward approach to sustainability.
What challenges have you encountered in the construction supply chain, and how have you adapted to overcome them?
Since April 24, the industry’s entire liquidity cycle has tightened, causing overall stress on supply networks. The government has altered the norms in infrastructure projects. We are doing our best by carefully selecting customers and suppliers to keep vital supply chains working. This was made possible by our team of industry specialists, who work diligently to provide unique and fresh solutions to our customers. We are now well diversified in the manufacturing aspect of our business, which protects us from overreliance on any one industry.
Regarding your steel products, what advantages do you believe they offer compared to alternatives in the market?
We deal in all steel products on a pan-India basis and have a large vendor network for all types of steel products, allowing our customers to select their preferred brands without having to visit a number of vendors. We provide confirmed and high-quality items and also save our consumers between 12 and 15 percent every year.
How does B2B Genie address environmental concerns in your product offerings? What eco-friendly practices do you implement?
We source all of our items responsibly, ensuring that we reduce our overall carbon footprint. Our staff recommends the best combination of products from our extensive vetted supplier network, reducing the number of trips required while fully using transportation capacity and reducing waste.
We are introducing new creative goods to the market that reduce use of products that cause CO2 emissions in the atmosphere. They are direct replacements for existing goods. For example, we sell cement savers, which help reduce cement content in concrete mixes by 20–30 percent. We were successful in decreasing approximately 100 – 120 kg of cement per cubic meter of concrete, resulting in 90 – 108 kg of CO2 reduction in the atmosphere for every cubic meter of concrete produced. This has the ability to remove 2.5–3 million metric tonnes of CO2 from the environment each year in India alone!
We strive to make building greener in the genuine sense. We will shortly announce agreements to successfully utilise waste products and improve the soil quality of wastelands.
Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) is gaining popularity. What key benefits do you see in using RMC for various construction projects?
RMC has gained traction in India over the years, and it has mostly supplanted SMC (Site Mixed Concrete) in tier II cities. RMC provides consumers with superior quality control, decreased waste, and faster construction than SMC. Furthermore, most RMC companies provide dedicated site quality personnel during slab/column casting, who do slump testing, cube testing, and supervision during the operation, boosting the overall quality of the job. The use of RMC also allows for the use of mineral admixtures such as flyash and GGBS, making the entire concrete value chain more sustainable and environmentally benign.
Can you discuss the significance of using sustainable materials like slag and fly ash in construction? How do these products enhance project performance?
Slag and fly ash are appropriate cementitious ingredients that assist reduce the amount of cement used in construction while also making the concrete more durable over time. We are also updating GGBS with additives to improve its strength and workability for usage in construction projects. We also enhanced fly ash to be used as a significant replacement for cement in mix designs.
What trends do you foresee impacting the construction materials industry in the next few years?
This industry will primarily focus on the use of sustainable construction materials and safe construction procedures. B2B Genie is already at the forefront of this trend, having introduced unique solutions in the form of various materials such as Natural Bitumen and Cement Savers. Sustainable shuttering materials, etc.
