The 34th edition of the world’s premier construction and mining trade exhibition, bauma 2025, opened in Munich, with 3,500 exhibitors from 57 countries spread across 614,000 square metres. The event focuses on how sustainability, digitalisation, and climate-neutral technologies will shape the future of the industry.
The 34th edition of bauma, the world’s largest trade expo for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines, construction vehicles and construction equipment, began at the Munich exhibition centre, Germany. The event, which runs from April 7 to 13, will span 614,000 square meters and welcome almost 3,500 exhibitors from 57 nations. This global gathering provides an opportunity to showcase technologies, exchange ideas, and discuss the industry’s most pressing concerns and innovative solutions.
The ceremonial opening ceremony took place at 09:30 a.m. in the Restaurant Turmblick, located at the venue’s East Entrance. The event began with insights from Klara Geywitz (Federal Minister for Housing, Urban Development and Building), Florian Herrmann (Head of the Bavarian State Chancellery and State Minister for Federal and Media Affairs in Bavaria), Dieter Reiter (Mayor of Munich) and the CEOs of Messe Muenchen, Stefan Rummel and Dr Reinhard Pfeiffer. Their opening statements emphasised what the sector is here to do: build more sustainably, increase digitalisation, and provide infrastructure for a changing world.

These focus areas come at a critical moment. The construction industry continues to be a major contributor to worldwide carbon emissions, accounting for approximately 38 percent, with roughly 10 percent arising directly from construction operations and building material production. bauma 2025 intends to highlight innovations that can considerably minimise this footprint, such as electric wheel loaders, self-driving excavators, and sustainable building materials, all following the European Union’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
The impressive number of innovations debuting at bauma 2025 demonstrates the construction industry’s dynamic evolution and manufacturers’ strong dedication to progressive and, in many cases, ecological advancement. Wirtgen will lead the way with 45 world premieres, while Doka will show off 30 new goods, including a stunning 30-metre-high scaffold tower. This towering structure, constructed of 12,340 components and weighing 67 tonnes, provides a panoramic view after climbing 180 steps and is enhanced by its 113-square-metre Sitelight LED display. Tadano Faun will present its CC 78.1250-1 lattice boom crawler crane, which weighs 996 tonnes—the equivalent of about 100 African bull elephants. At the same time, there is a distinct emphasis on sustainability. Volvo Construction is participating in bauma for the first time with a broad array of electric, zero-emission machines, demonstrating the industry’s ongoing shift towards environmentally friendly solutions.
Day one of bauma 2025 has already shown the industry’s dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility. As the event begins, the excitement and expectation are evident. The opening day established the tone for a week of new debuts, technological demos, expert conversations, and vital networking opportunities.
Looking ahead, bauma 2025 is set to affect the conversation and direction of the global construction and mining industries. With thousands of innovations on exhibit and an uncompromising focus on sustainability and digital transformation, the next few days are expected to inspire, inform, and influence the future of building and infrastructure around the world.
