Inaugurated by top industry leaders on April 10, 2025, this milestone marks a bold leap in next-gen welding & automation for India’s manufacturing sector.
CLOOS India marked a major milestone with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Experience Centre at its Pune headquarters on 10th April 2025. The space is designed to showcase advanced welding technologies and foster customer engagement, sales and service. The experience centre will facilitate the transfer of German Cloos technology in a more accessible way for Indian customers.
The inauguration was performed In the presence of senior leadership, including Sumon Mitra, Chief Operating Officer, CLOOS India Welding Technology Pvt. Ltd.; Johann Kubu, Managing Director, CLOOS India; and Stephan Pittner, CEO, CLOOS Group. Industry leaders Atul Kulkarni, GM and Head of Manufacturing, JCB India Ltd., and Nilabja Dutta, COO, Apex Auto Pvt. Ltd., were chief guests.
Adding to the celebration, CLOOS India was recognised as the ‘Best Subsidiary of the Year’ among 16 global subsidiaries of the CLOOS Group. This recognition is due to the collective effort and close collaboration between CLOOS India and the global CLOOS network. Stephan Pittner explained that they created a matrix to assess their subsidiaries. Out of 16 globally, they shortlisted three and evaluated them based on quantitative and qualitative measures. After evaluating all criteria, the team voted Cloos India the Subsidiary of the Year 2024.

Experience center
Cloos Experience Centre showcased high-end 7-axis robots, highlighting their weight, additional tracks, manipulators, tandem welding technology, single welding with automatic tool changing, and aluminium welding with specialised curves tailored to the industry’s needs. This facility also includes robot and cobot systems, manual machinery, and processes.
The core mission of this new facility is to establish an independent design department with its own design and R&D centres.
Sumon Mitra, Chief Operating Officer, CLOOS India Welding Technology Pvt. Ltd shared that they offer more than 18 processes for MIG/MAG. Instead of using TIG for higher productivity, they utilise MIG, and their facility now showcases all these processes. Now, Cloos India can demonstrate the same processes as Cloos headquarters, fulfilling requests for any demonstration.
Cloos made infrastructure modifications by relocating to a larger facility, as the previous space had become too limited to support their growing operations. The newly developed Experience Centre is not just focused on delivering ROI—it’s driven by necessity. Cloos plans to expand to 50–60 skilled technicians.
Localised manufacturing shift
Johann Kubu, Managing Director, CLOOS India, addresses the challenges, sharing, “India faces substantial challenges in infrastructure development that require high-quality goods at low costs. We provide automation solutions for the arc welding process to help our customers achieve this goal. The new Experience Centre will focus on welding technology, our core business since 1919. We aim to improve weld quality and speed to shorten production cycles and reduce costs, enabling our customers to compete globally.”
According to Stephen Pittner, CEO of Cloos Group, the markets have been quite unstable globally; however, India maintained a relatively stable market last year. Unlike many other economies, India operates more independently from global trends. With strong local market demands, there is potential to introduce advanced technologies in the region.
He emphasised that manufacturing is moving towards localisation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, transportation costs surged— shipping a container to the U.S., for example, became four times more expensive due to fuel and tax-related factors. To stay competitive, value must be added at every stage of the supply chain. Cloos, for instance, is part of JCB’s supply chain in the U.S., following JCB’s expansion with a new facility. This aligns with the broader trend of decentralised manufacturing.
N. Dutta, COO of Apex Auto Private Limited, shared the partnership journey with Cloos, noting, “We started our association with Cloos in 2005 when we purchased the first robot for our Dharwad plant. It has been working very well. The installation support was effective, and we’ve since added Cloos robots to our Jamshedpur and Bangalore plants. We’ve never faced major issues requiring intensive customer support. Cloos has always responded to minor problems, such as accidents requiring parts, either from stock or by arranging alternatives.”
Training and upskilling
Cloos believes that effective training yields the best results, and thus, they provide in-house training. Mr Kubu shares that they are creating a training centre, which will be available for customers and employees. They also offer customers the option to install a training robot system at their sites to train their operators and maintenance personnel.
Cloos India has experienced stable growth over the past six years. The Experience Centre will maintain stability and tackle challenges by transferring global technology to the Indian industry with an aspiration to be the technology leader in India.
