Sahyadri Industries Ltd offers innovative, specialised and futuristic construction solutions like dry walls and pre-engineered building (PEB) technology. Here, Satyen Patel, Managing Director of the company shares his views on advanced construction technologies.
Solicit experts’ advice
Though construction industry in India has made some progress in terms of adopting advanced technologies, Patel believes current Indian market trends are not in tune with the rapidly changing global technology and the speed required for construction. He said, “Many decision makers are not updated with the latest offerings. Time-value equation is not the focal area still with many businesses. Companies are trying to do everything on their own rather than using a solution provider and that obstructs them from timely completion of the project. Though the trend of seeking advice from a complete building solution provider has started, however it will take some time for that trend to catch on.”
Commenting on the current trends in procurement of building solutions he said, “Adapting the new systems for procurement in building solutions would lead to timely completion of project, more accurate demand planning, and better management of increased competition and price pressures, closer collaboration between stakeholders, building sustainability into supply chains.”
Major buying factors
The scarcity of labour, availability of skilled manpower and constraint of project duration makes it difficult for a buyer to choose among the best available solutions. Talking about the major factors a buyer should consider before making a decision of buying building solutions, Patel said, “If a buyer makes himself more equipped with current trends in modern and innovative building technology, he will get a good return on investment. It will also improve his buying capacity in terms of area because the advancement in building solutions like dry wall and pre-engineered technology has lesser thick walls with better performance as compared to conventional brick walls.”
Emerging technology
Drawing attention on the major innovations happening in the area of building solutions Patel adds, “Dry wall technology is an emerging trend gaining acceptance in India now. It is a fast-track construction system, extremely sturdy and does not require high-end equipment or high-skilled labour at sites like precast or formwork technology. This technology does not require water, sand and bricks at site and saves the environment.”
Maturing industry
Indian industry has incorporated many advanced technologies over a period of time but the advancement has not aligned with the global trends of building solutions. Speaking on Indian industry’s maturity to make use of advanced building solutions optimally, Patel says, “The Indian building solutions are focused on men hour rather than mechanical hour. That leads to the poor time management and delay in the project completion, which eventually increases the project cost. Indian industry is now geared up and updated to make use of the advanced building solutions. However the industry has to look at cost effective solutions rather than targeting low cost alternatives.”
Meeting global standard
Solutions offered by Sahyadri Industries are innovative, offers speedy and sustainable construction. Its products use 30 – 35 per cent flyash which is a waste generated by the thermal power station through burning coal. The solutions are green as it does not require water, sand and bricks. High-end equipment and highly skilled labour are also not essential at site. “Our solutions are based on erect-on-site PEB technology. It’s a new age dry and fast-track construction system that is extremely sturdy, reliable and can be easily transported at longer distances,” said Patel while explaining the USP of his company.
Sahyadri’s innovations are reaching out to people and businesses across the globe in Middle East, US, UK, Africa, Australia and Asia. SIL has recently been conferred the status of Export House for its foreign trade initiatives.
