We look at procurement on a global and regional level to get the best what we can provide in our offering to the end users.
Nilotpol Kar, Business Director, Construction Chemicals, BASF South Asia shares his take away about procurement practices, the credit concerns and gives a view about this industry.
Range of products for the industry
Speaking about the range of products that the company offers, Kar said, “We have the latest polymer technology for high quality, high strength and versatile concrete. Our range of admixtures can optimised concrete mix proportions for the best balance of durability and ease of placement. Our admixture systems include MasterGlenium, MasterPolyheed, MasterLife etc.”
Kar further added,“In case of underground construction, i.e. of railways or metro, we have chemical solutions for ground support, ground consolidation, TBM (tunnel boring machine) and waterproofing for safer and efficient tunnelling. For watertight protection in residential and commercial properties, our waterproofing, sealing and tiling products like MasterPel, MasterSeal.”
Kar also spoke about the company’s work in reliable flooring. Widely known as the world’s toughest floor, Ucrete flooring systems provides a powerful layer of protection for both new and existing concrete surfaces for the most demanding industrial environment. Ucrete is HACCP certified internationally to provide a hygienic and durable flooring for the F&B industry.
Why BASF?
Sharing with B2B Purchase about what makes the customers approach BASF, Kar was quick to say, “Our products are catering to the construction chemicals industry but not just it because our solutions are used in all or any types of industries that involves new construction or existing structures and facilities requiring repair and maintenance.“
Recent innovations
As per Kar, there are two aspects to look at the innovations. He says that in most of the cases, we end up looking for the applications of the existing technology in the new applications. He says that to some extent, the innovation is in formulation tweaking to bring in some enhanced properties.
Adding further, he says, “In Europe, our Green Sense Concrete technology was used in the construction of a new BASF office building in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Around 2,100 cubic metre of concrete were processed in the casting of the foundation slab for the new office building. The mix design was optimised using an eco-efficiency analysis. We have aligned our concrete admixtures with the raw materials used by the concrete manufacturer, thereby achieving savings of around 30 per cent in CO2 equivalents compared with a conventional concrete mix design.”
Procurement practices and payment concerns
“We look at procurement on a global and regional level to get the best what we can provide in our offering to the end users,” he says when asked about the procurement practices followed by BASF. “Each step in our value delivery network adds value. Raw material sourcing and selection is a defined process where evaluation of each component is done rigorously and time tested in terms of quality control and assurance,” he adds.
Concluding about the credit concerns, Kar says “We take pride in our relationships with our customers and work in collaboration with customers. Credit periods are worked as per industry standards.”
