We are seeing a greater use of electronics in machine control. This is bringing efficiencies and more automation to operational tasks.
Volvo Construction Equipment is one of the front runners when it comes to construction equipment with a legacy of 180 years. During an interview with B2B Purchase, Dimitrov Krishnan, Vice President and Head of Volvo CE India, talked at length about Volvo, its contribution and the payment and the procurement practices followed at Volvo.
Range of products
Expressing his thoughts about the range of products that Volvo has offered, Dimitrov says, “Our most popular machines in India are our excavators, and for road building and use in smaller quarries, the EC210P is selling well, thanks to its heavy-duty design, productivity and fuel efficiency.”
Dimitrov also talked about the compactors that are launched by Volvo. “Our most popular soil compactor here is the SD110, which has an 11,125 kg operating weight and a drum width of 2,134 mm. It’s a powerful and versatile unit that is suited to a lot of projects in India.”
He further said, “Playing a more direct role in road building work are our pavers and compactors. The latest road building product from our Bengaluru facility is the P5320B ABG paver, which we introduced earlier this year. It is ideal for medium and large-scale paving projects where widths range from 2.5 metres up to 7 metres,” says a confident Dimitrov.
Why Volvo?
Speaking about the points that made buyers choose Volvo over other competitors, Dimitrov attributes it to fuel efficiency. “Fuel efficiency is the number one design feature appreciated by Volvo CE customers,” he says. Claiming that the advanced engine designs are unmatched, he said that is what gives the machines deliver more output while using less fuel.
Dimitrov also sought attention to the fact that the nationwide network of skilled and experienced equipment dealerships sets Volvo apart from other manufacturers. All this adds to Volvo being a stand out in the construction equipment industry.
Current trends
Dimitrov feels that the innovations in the field of construction equipment are natural and continual. “There are ongoing advances in the fields of materials science. Steel is still the preferred material for machine construction, but we’ll see the use of high-strength composite materials increase with time,” he states.
Dimitrov also thinks that the advent of IoT will bring in tremendous changes. He says, “Generally speaking, we’re seeing a greater use of electronics in machine control. This is bringing efficiencies and more automation to operational tasks. With the advent of IoT, we’ll likely see greater coordination between machine functions in future equipment designs”.
Payment and procurement
When it comes to dealing with the procurement and the payment issues, Volvo seems to have a lot of options. With a customer centric approach towards it, Dimitrov claims that the financial services are well equipped.
“There’s a choice of leasing and financing arrangements possible, and the service is available to both our dealers and customers. Having our own financial advisory firm in-house means we can assist clients directly to the best of our ability. The packages are tailored to the specific needs of customers, depending on the type of investment they are making,” Dimitrov concludes.
