Etnyre layers innovation into road maintenance
.

In this exclusive interview, William Etnyre, Chair of the Board of Etnyre International, and Ganesha Iyer, President and CEO, share insights into the company’s expansion into India, its innovative products for road maintenance, and its commitment to sustainability in the infrastructure sector.

How has your experience been at Bauma India this year?
Ganesha Iyer: Potential customers have expressed interest in our products, and we have identified a solid supply base to tap into. Connecting with industry professionals and showcasing our solutions has been a great opportunity.

William Etnyre: From my perspective, it has been fantastic. I have mainly attended ConExpo in the U.S., but Bauma Delhi is equally vibrant and diverse, with people and products worldwide. It is exciting to be part of such a dynamic environment and share ideas on how we can contribute to infrastructure growth.

Please talk about your innovations for the market.
Ganesha Iyer: At Bauma, we did showcase our road maintenance solutions, which are crucial for keeping the infrastructure we have built over the past 20 years in good condition. We are exhibiting three key products: the Live Bottom Trailer, the RoadSaver, and the Crack Sealer. These are designed for road maintenance and paving projects. While we have a broader product portfolio, these three highlight our display. With roads entering their maintenance cycle, we believe our products are well-positioned to meet this demand. In the U.S., we have been leaders in road maintenance for quite some time, and now we’re seeing growing interest in road maintenance here in India. For many years, the focus has been on building new roads, but now there’s a shift toward understanding how to maintain and extend the life of existing roads properly.

Could you elaborate on how sustainability is incorporated into your products?
Ganesha Iyer: Road maintenance itself is inherently sustainable. Instead of rebuilding roads from scratch, we preserve the existing asphalt and add a fresh layer, which reduces the need for extensive resources. Additionally, some of our products, like the Asphalt Distributor, feature an electric heating mechanism, which is part of our green initiative. We are committed to providing sustainable solutions in road maintenance and continuously working on integrating more eco-friendly technologies into our product line.

William Etnyre: It is important to understand how asphalt works. Just like trees and plants, asphalt needs moisture. Over time, it can dry out and become more prone to damage. Our products help by adding a fresh layer of asphalt, which brings some moisture back, extending the life of the road. This process can be repeated multiple times, which is highly sustainable. Instead of tearing up a road every 7–10 years, our solutions can keep roads functional for 40 years or more, making them much more sustainable.

On the topic of infrastructure development, how do your initiatives align with India’s national programs?
Ganesha Iyer: While we are not directly involved in those initiatives, our focus on road maintenance and infrastructure development is in line with the national goals. As more roads are built, it’s crucial to maintain and upgrade them, which contributes to the country’s overall growth and development. Our products are designed to support this ongoing infrastructure development.

How does Gainwell’s skill development program align with your global service vision?
Ganesha Iyer: We have a global service organisation that supports our products, and here in India, we have partnered with Gainwell, which has an extensive service network. Through this partnership, we will provide training and ongoing support to ensure operators are well-equipped to use our equipment effectively. Skill development is crucial for ensuring our products’ efficient and safe operation. Gainwell has an internal skill development program covers a wide range of equipment, ensuring that new operators are trained and equipped with the necessary expertise. This program is especially important as new equipment is introduced, ensuring workers can handle the latest technologies. The focus is on improving the workforce’s skill set, which ultimately contributes to better productivity and maintenance outcomes.

William Etnyre: I want to reiterate our excitement about the future. Our products can play a significant role in sustaining and extending the life of infrastructure in India. We can make a lasting impact with the right solutions and proper training.

We look forward to working with our partners, like Gainwell, to help build a sustainable future for road maintenance in India.

Are there any new products in your pipeline that we can expect?
Ganesha Iyer: We have an exciting new product coming soon—the Mastic Kettle. We plan to launch it in April or May of next year. This product is designed to address larger potholes, providing a robust, long-lasting solution. Unlike traditional patching methods, the Mastic Kettle will provide a more durable fix that can withstand weather conditions and wear for years.
