Advanced synthetic wind turbine gear oil receives globally recognised accolade for reliability and cost saving benefits.
ExxonMobil’s advanced wind turbine gear oil, Mobil SHC Gear 320 WT, has been awarded a Conformity Statement by DNV GL, one of the world’s leading certification bodies for renewable energy projects. The lubricant is the only dedicated wind industry oil to receive this accolade, the first stage of a three-part progression to total accreditation, the company states.
“The safety and reliability of wind turbines are high priorities; to achieve this, the quality of individual components is vital,” said Rainer Grzybowski at DNV GL. “Our certification aims to give customers that assurance.”
Mobil SHC Gear 320 WT was developed in collaboration with leading global OEMs. It is formulated to help deliver outstanding protection for critical wind turbine components over long oil drain intervals. This can help wind farm operators cut maintenance costs and enhance safety by reducing human-machine interaction.
DNV GL’s conformity statement is confirmation that the lubricant meets international wind turbine performance requirements and customer needs. This seal of approval is acknowledged by authorities around the world.
“We at ExxonMobil are privileged to be recognised as the first ever lubricant manufacturer by DNV GL’s independently-accredited certification service for the wind industry,” says Imtiaz Ahmed, Asia Pacific Mobil SHC Brand Manager at ExxonMobil.
“Mobil SHC Gear 320 WT, coupled with our seven-year warranty is a product with the potential to offer high-quality performance to our customers round the globe, ensuring advance productivity and profitability. This product brings with it, the ability to cater to the various, growing demands of Indian wind industry.” he added.
Mobil SHC Gear 320 WT features a proprietary additive technology designed to provide excellent protection against common types of wear, such as scuffing, as well as micro-pitting fatigue.
The lubricant’s synthetic formulation offers extended oil life and drain intervals, compared with mineral-based alternatives, helping reduce lubricant consumption. The gear oil is suitable for both on-shore and off-shore wind farms.
