The pump business in India is constantly growing. The applications of pumps are seen across sectors including agriculture, industries and domestic use. In agriculture, they are used for irrigation and supply water to farms. In industries, it is used for water supply, water management and desalination. In the domestic sector, pumps are generally used in residential households for supply of water.
Pumps in India
The pump market has immense growth potential, owing to the increased demand from each sector because of the rapid expansion in the Indian economy. Technology orientation and growing need of energy-efficient techniques in industries will further fuel growth in the market and help the players to reap the benefits of increased demand. India is also rapidly becoming a big exporter of pumps with changing technology in its products and the cost effectiveness. Rising urban infrastructure and households is definitely going to boost the overall demand of pumps in India.
There are several players in the pump manufacturing space in India; out of which only 52 per cent belongs to the organised market.
Grundfos Pumps India, established in 1998, is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Grundfos, Denmark. Grundfos is one of the global leaders in advanced pump solutions and a trendsetter in water technology. As one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers, Grundfos has an annual production of more than 18 million pump units.
Range of products
Grundfos provides the most energy-efficient pumping solutions with the lowest life-cycle cost to its users. These pumps cover a broad range of applications and even wider variety of configurations.
Acceptance in market
Grundfos India boasts a range of solar pumps for agriculture sector. The Solar Submersible Pumps family of SQFlex range, SP with external AC/DC controller and Solar Surface mounted CR flex range of pumps are eco-friendly water supply solutions and a revolution in remote water supply and agriculture. The pump system offers the perfect water supply solution in remote areas where water is scarce and the power supply is non-existent or unreliable. Since 2001, Grundfos has sold almost 8,000 such pumps, and this has left a positive impact on the socio-economic lives across India.
Innovative Grundfos
Grundfos develops two to three groundbreaking products year on year. Innovation is the essence of its business. Its innovation of the S-tube impeller set new standards for wastewater hydraulic design. The S-tube impeller is a tube-shaped impeller placed in a pump housing that matches the smooth tube shape through the entire pump with no obstructions or dead zones through the hydraulic.
With the S-tube impeller, the efficiency is higher compared to other wastewater impellers as there are no edges, dead zones, or cutting functions that get worn over time. Besides, the S-tube impeller features an innovative and patented labyrinth and sealing system, for years of trouble-free operation. The S-tube impeller offers the highest hydraulic efficiency and best-in-class non-clogging capabilities for optimum reliability and lowest life-cycle costs.
The response for this product has been good, and it is encouraging to note the decision makers in various municipalities are keen to reduce the operational expenditure by bringing new technologies and capital expenditure to invest.
