GS Caltex is a joint venture between two global energy behemoths: GS Energy of South Korea and Chevron Corporation of the United States of America. This gives us a big advantage when offering cutting-edge technologies to Indian clientele. We introduced Hydraulic Oil and Engine Oil under our KIXX brand at Bauma ConExpo 2023. Platforms like these allow us to showcase some of the most cutting-edge technology we are developing for the construction and mining industries.
Today, GS Caltex is looking beyond oil to create sustainable solutions to help the government minimise its carbon footprint. We have launched a new oil and lubricant product line to meet our goal of contributing to global sustainability.
How does GS Caltex contribute to environmental standards for the construction and mining industries?
Construction and mining are growing rapidly in India, whereas industrial lubricants are growing at a rate of 4-5 percent. However, the ICEMA projection for construction equipment is higher than 26 percent this year, thanks primarily to huge government expenditure in developing roads, bridges, ports, fleets, and other mining infrastructure. As a result, we are bullish on the segments’ growth prospects.
GS Caltex India has served the construction and mining industries for over 12 years and has grown rapidly. And you are all working with us to get the word out that now is the moment to invest massively in the Indian construction and mining industries. In addition, to match the Indian government’s commitment, our management from our headquarters in South Korea has made significant investments in our company, allowing us to develop more innovative and improved solutions.
During Excon 2019, we revealed a one-of-a-kind industrial solution that gives more than 5000 hours of hydraulic oil life. At BAUMA 2023, we debuted two new products developed by our cutting-edge technology. We also demonstrated our R&D capabilities, centred around our creative solutions and technology.
With India’s economy rapidly expanding, GS Caltex will adequately co-operate with this industry, particularly the mining business.
How do your newly launched hydraulic oil and engine oil contribute to the long-term needs of equipment and industrial applications?
We have launched KIXX HDX EURO CK-4, a heavy-duty diesel engine oil, and KIXX HYDRO HV AF 46, a zinc-free hydraulic oil, at Bauma ConExpo 2023. These products are designed especially for the construction and mining industries. The engine oil is made per the BS-VI norms and is compatible with BS-IV vehicles. Furthermore, these products are tested on-field, and we are claiming almost 20,000 km of highway running on a trial interval and about 100–300 km trial intervals. These products use low ash, which again holds great importance for the after-treatment devices.
Because some of our customers own and maintain mixed fleets and others have equipment for both BS-IV and BS-VI, one product will be treated as a solution for both BS-IV and BS-VI. Since maintaining their stocks is crucial, this will enable our clients to do so with just one product.
What is new about these products to ensure fuel economy and ease of use?
We are promoting a concept that will strengthen environmentally friendly development or sustainable growth. To match, we have debuted hydraulic oil at Bauma 2023 once it has undergone field testing every 5000 hours. Applications for them include industrial hydraulic applications and excavators, and they can be employed in several contexts. This product is built using environmentally safe, sustainable Zinc-Free technology. It’s extremely high viscosity index will help increase drain intervals and improve fuel efficiency. Despite having access to the data, we are not making any fuel economy claims because the data is highly application specific.
The basic oils we employ in each product were created in our refinery, which is another important point to note. The base oil, which is an in-house refined product of GS Caltex, and the lubricants are products that our organisation makes. Additionally, we offer backward integration, where our base oil and lubricant team collaborate closely in South Korea. We collaborate with Chevron on technology as well. It’s a beautiful combination of oils and lubricants, and thanks to cutting-edge technology, we can provide our customers with prompt delivery.
What opportunities do you foresee for your business expansions and global market outreach?
Our nation is in a strong position. We can attest to it with this opportunity since we have already seen it in our business across all GS Caltex’s categories, especially in the mining and construction industries. The infrastructure sector is getting unprecedented investment for India to become a developed country. So, in the upcoming 10 to 15 years, the infrastructure industry is expected to experience tremendous expansion.
For this purpose, we emphasise cutting-edge technologies and strengthen the efficiency standards for our product and service offerings. With this kind of growth and development, there is a greater emphasis on sustainability to protect the environment. Therefore, we need to collaborate with global OEM partners. We collaborate with our R&D team, the Chevron R&D team, and other global OEMs. This will enable us to comprehend how they view the tools and apps, which must be sustainable. Therefore, even in the future, we will continue to concentrate on and emphasise technological developments and sustainability.
