In mining overburden (also known as waste or spoil) is a material that lies above an area that lends itself to economic exploitation such as the rock, soil and an ecosystem that lies above the coal seam or ore body. So far, the usage of coal overburden was only for landfill or was used as waste material. It comprises clay, Alluvial sand and sandstone with rich silica content.
