Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) Japan and Confederation of Indian Industry, India (CII) organised a Technical Seminar and Workshop on High Precision Arc Welding Technology at Jamshedpur on 13-14 December.

The seminar was organised at Hotel Alcor, Jamshedpur and the practical demonstration of Japanese latest welding technology was conducted at Indo Danish Tool Room (IDTR), MSME Tool Room, Jamshedpur on both the days. The training program at Jamshedpur was funded by Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry, Japan (METI). This was the third and last METI supported training program scheduled in this year. First program in this series was held at Chennai while the other at Ahmedabad. Panasonic Welding Systems was an industry partner by providing lecture and practical demonstration on latest welding equipment and robot technology to improve productivity of Indian metal fabrication industry.

The two-day seminar serves as a platform to promote Japan’s latest high-precision welding technology into India. The eminent faculty included Prof. Manabu Tanaka (Joining & Welding Research Institute – JWRI, Osaka University, Japan), who delivered valuable lecture on importance of high precision arc welding technology and trends in new technology—Welding Mechanics and Design for Smart Manufacturing and Masaharu Sato, (Japan Welding Engineering Society-JWES, Japan), who covered topics including the importance of welding quality control, certification systems as practiced in Japan. With an aim to support ‘Make in India’ vision, this initiative is expected to foster the growth of personnel engaged in the manufacturing sector, welders and welding technologists in particular.

Masayuki Taga said he was happy to welcome the Japanese delegates to the Eastern part of India. Over 1,400 Japanese companies are operating in India out of which 700 plus companies are from manufacturing sector. Most of the Japanese companies are based in North, West and Southern part of India but a few good Japanese companies are based in and around Jamshedpur e.g. Tata Hitachi, he said.

Government of Japan is committed to support the ‘Make in India’ initiative and “Made in India” mission by continuing these kinds of workshops. Japan has already started taking significant measures to improve the human resource in India and we shall continue to support such kind of initiatives in India, he further added.

Yukari Saisho, AOTS said, “It is my great honour to deliver a speech on behalf of The Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) at this Seminar and Workshop, which is funded by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), which hope to assist the industrial structure and business environments in India by sharing the Japanese system, technologies and know-how, all of which have been proven effective for the economic growth of Japan.”

The technical workshop and seminar was attended by more than 130 nos. of participants from companies like Tata Steel Ltd, Tata Motors, Tata Hitachi, Hyva India, Highco Engineers, ISWP, The Tata Power Company, TRF Ltd., Utkal Automobiles, RSB Transmissions, Maruti Suzuki, Indico Motors to name a few and institutes like Indo Danish Tool Room, MSME, Jamshedpur and Ranchi, NTTF Jamshedpur, NSTI Jamshedpur and NSTI Kolkata.
