Monsoon is the true test of readiness of a structure. Torrential rain, extreme humidity, high temperatures and harsh sun can take a toll on concrete structures leaving them prey to deterioration. Water leakage is the most common complaint that new and existing structures face during the monsoon. The market for repair sees a boost as existing structures need urgent solutions for leaking roofs, walls etc., repairs which would have not been required if the correct solution had been used during the construction of the project. In fact, the industry judges the success of a waterproofing technology depending on the numbers of monsoons it has kept the building safe from.
There is one technology that gives the right solution and has survived the test of time and Indian monsoons. The award-winning Krystol Technology is unique in terms of not just its chemical properties, but also physical properties. This technology uses water as a catalyst to create long, narrow crystals within the concrete itself. These crystals permanently fill the pores, capillaries and hairline cracks of the concrete mass, and continue to grow throughout the concrete, reaching lengths of many inches over time. Once the concrete has cured, the crystalline chemicals sit dormant until another dose of water causes the chemical reaction to start again. The ability to reactivate in the presence of water gives Krystol-treated concrete the ability to ‘self-seal’. When cracks form due to curing shrinkage, settling, seismic activity etc., water entering through them causes new crystals to form and grow, blocking and filling the cracks. This ability to self-seal can help to dramatically reduce the long-term maintenance and repair costs of a concrete structure. An additional benefit is that Krystol Technology doesn’t need absolutely dry conditions to apply and can be used during rains. As long as there is construction on the site, waterproofing can be done.
Pioneered by Kryton International more than four decades ago, this technology has today created many landmarks across the globe and is used in more than 45 countries. Boasting of the largest North American laboratory specialising in permeability testing, Kryton has always kept a hand on the pulse of the industry and has tried to change and customise products and solutions as required. 20 years ago, Kryton saw the need for reliable waterproofing technologies in India and decided to enter this booming construction market as Kryton Buildmat (Kryton-India).
Celebrating 20 years of guaranteed waterproof structures, Kryton-India claims to be the oldest crystalline manufacturer in India and has successfully found solutions to infrastructure, commercial, residential and hospitality projects across the country.
