Jaso completes 60 years in manufacturing world class cranes across the globe
.

Jaso, a global pioneer in crane manufacturing, will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2025. With a 60,000-square-foot factory near Kolkata, it has delivered over 1,000 cranes across India since 2008. This interaction focuses on Jaso’s EOT crane developments, safety, IoT integration, and market forecast.

Please tell us about your company and the manufacturing facilities in India.

We are proud to mention that in 2025, Jaso will celebrate 60 years of crane manufacture. We have been dedicated to providing world-class solutions in the material handling arena worldwide. Jaso operates in more than 20 countries and has six manufacturing locations worldwide. Our global headquarters is in Itsasondo, northern Spain.

The Indian operations began in 2008 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Since then, we’ve provided over 1000 cranes throughout India. We have a 60,000-square-foot production plant equipped with world-class crane manufacturing technology.

What are your key product offerings in the EOT crane segment, and how do they cater to the construction and infrastructure industries?

We have EOT cranes, available in single girder (SG) and double girder (DG) versions, with capacities of up to 150T and spans of up to 40 metres. We also manufacture Gantry/Goliath Cranes in SG and DG variants, with capacities of up to 150T and adjustable spans. Similarly, our Semi-Gantry Cranes come in SG and DG variants, with capacities of up to 150T and adjustable spans. We also provide Jib Cranes with capacities of up to 10T and spans of up to 7 meters, available in various configurations including gantry, wall-mounted, and cantilever options. Our product line also includes Transfer Cars with capacities of up to 50T that may be fully customised to match customer specifications.

How are IoT, AI, and automation transforming EOT cranes, and how is your company integrating these technologies?

While we provide various IoT-enabled products globally, acceptance in India is still sluggish. This is due to the lack of well-trained crane operators to manage cranes with IoT facilities. Though India is heading for a drastic change in manufacturing, we believe it will take a decade for such advanced features to become common.

An IoT-enabled crane with an untrained operator is a recipe for complete failure and chaos on the shop floor. As a result, we are currently focused on providing cranes appropriate for the customer’s working environment. We believe that unnecessary additions can cause problems at the workplace and reduce productivity. We should better educate the workforce before introducing such complexity to the system.

We are closely monitoring the market and are devoted to providing the best solution that our customers deserve. We look forward to introducing such features as and when the need arises, and we are certain that it is in the client’s best interests.

In general, IoT/AI enables real-time monitoring of crane operation and offers information on numerous components, such as motors, hydraulics, and load sensors. This should allow operators to monitor the crane’s status and identify possible difficulties before they become major problems.

How customisable are your EOT cranes for different project requirements in construction and infrastructure, and what sectors are your major clients?

Our cranes are very configurable till they fulfil safety standards. We design our cranes to FEM standards; thus, safety is a major consideration when developing them. We may configure cranes based on the needs and usage of our customers after thoroughly knowing their requirements, expectations, and kind of operations.

While any industry that requires material handling is a potential client for Jaso, some industries where we have a substantial presence include auto components, wind energy, polyfilms, refractories, and steel processing.

What advanced safety features do your EOT cranes include to prevent accidents and ensure operator safety?

For us, safety becomes the foremost priority while constructing the crane. We design our cranes as per FEM rules and our cranes are equipped with all the necessary safety elements required for the safe functioning of the cranes. A few of them are stated below:

· Instantaneously Trigged Braking System: In case of a power failure, the electromagnetic brakes are triggered immediately.

· Load Limiter: A snap action switch triggered immediately in case of an overload.

· Position Limit Switches: Our cranes have position limit switches for all LT & CT motions.

· Hoisting Limit Switches: In extreme positions, the hook movements are restricted by the hoisting limit switches.

· Anti-collision Device: In the case of two cranes in one bay or two trollies in the same crane, an electronic device is installed to restrict the collision of these equipment.

Do you offer training programs for crane operators and maintenance teams?

Yes, we do offer crane operator training. Before delivering the cranes to the client, the handing-over team teaches the operators once the cranes have been assembled and commissioned. It typically lasts for a few days and includes thorough instruction on every aspect of the crane.

The provided crane’s instruction and maintenance handbook, which covers every facet of the machine and the regular processes for maintenance and problem-solving, is given to the maintenance crews. In addition to the handbook, our installation teams assist the maintenance team in identifying the most common problems that may arise during operations and in training the necessary answers.

How do you handle spare parts availability and emergency service requests?

We are pleased to notify you that the need for spare parts for our cranes is extremely low because of the high calibre of production and the careful selection of the best parts that go into them. Despite this, our factory has enough essential spare parts and can ship them out in a day.

Our philosophy is to first give you a crane with the best parts that don’t break down quickly and second to make sure that our service experts are always within 24 hours of you, in case you need emergency assistance. To provide a timely service response, we have a team of more than 25 service engineers spread throughout India and we are also tied up to several service partners. Our clients are very pleased with the quick response and faster resolution of problems.

How do you see the Indian market evolving for EOT cranes in the next five years?

At the very least, India’s manufacturing sector will undergo a revolution in the next ten years. Many new businesses are anticipated to open factories in India due to the government’s emphasis on manufacturing for the global market. The future appears bright because the current players too expect to expand their production capacities. For the next few decades, cranes will be in great demand in industries like steel, precast, granite, railroads, automobiles, and infrastructure and construction.
