Layher Protect-System for site protection
.

The Layher Protect-System is a cassette enclosure system for the most stringent requirements when it comes to environmental conservation, traffic protection and noise insulation. The airtight connection of the cassettes means they can be used as a dust and noise protection wall, for example – during asbestos clearance or restoration work. They can also be used all the year round for buildings, scaffolding covering, façade appearance improvement, event solutions, sandblasting work, partition walls etc.

To make sure that customer is able to shop during renovation work without disturbance, it had to be functional, but at the same time attractive. The solution was the Protect System from Layher. This dustproof enclosure system effectively kept out dust from construction.

Application
Shoppers nowadays are looking for adventure, and this has brought a number of changes to the design of shopping centres. They’re no longer just a place to buy things; they’re a place for people to enjoy themselves. The Weser Park shopping centre in Bremen, which opened in 1990, reflects this trend: it offers an oasis for wellness, a bowling alley and a cinema called the Crystal Palace. And to remain competitive in the future this shopping centre, one of the largest in northern Germany, is now being renovated and expanded at considerable expense. At the same time, business must continue. In order, not to spoil people’s shopping experience during this period a temporary partition wall has been set up to protect them from dust and keep them from entering the construction site by mistake.

This was a challenging task for project, a company specialising in property and project management. Site protection is becoming increasingly important in construction projects, especially in locations like Weser Park which are highly frequented. To avoid site shutdowns Layher had to provide protection against the effects of weather, but also had to protect pedestrians from dust, noise and falling objects. When erected, the temporary partition wall that had to keep a number of factors in mind – they had to assemble it quickly to hold to the schedule, and had to give it an attractive appearance in
keeping with the prestigious surroundings. These were requirements that ordinary tarpaulins could not fulfil the customer requirement.

“The system solution consists of a comprehensive construction kit made up of cassette elements. Depending on the needs, they are provided with a galvanised steel sheet, a translucent plastic ribbed panel or real glass,” explains the project director and this permits work in daylight conditions and allows visitors to peek behind the scenes. By means of cassettes of different length and special corner elements one can perfectly adapt temporary partitions made from the Protect System to the given geometry. An all-round rubber seal on the cassettes ensures a neat and precisely fitting connection to the adjacent elements. The temporary partitions thus can seal off individual areas and allow operations to continue without obstruction – both in front and behind.

The Commissioning team, have consisted of three sections with a total area of 700 square metres. The team first put up Layher Allround Scaffolding as a substructure. The system’s modular structure assured an exact match to the shape of the building, and its ingenious bolt-free wedge head connection technology saved time during assembly. The wall cassettes and real glass cassettes were easy to mount, even in corner areas. To keep disruption of business to a minimum, the scaffolding erectors worked both night and day. Thus the 8-metre-high partition walls were completed in a week. The result was an efficient site protection structure that provided ideal conditions for renovation and modernisation of the shopping centre.
