Matterlab lauded for technical rigor to tackle Kerala’s infrastructure challenges

Prof. R. Sundaravadivelu paid a visit to Kozhikode’s NABL-accredited Matterlab, applauding the facility’s sophisticated testing capabilities and advocating for its expanded role in tackling infrastructure concerns and promoting safety, sustainability, and research-driven growth in Kerala.
Prof. R. Sundaravadivelu, Retired Senior Professor at IIT Madras’ Department of Ocean Engineering and Director of the Centre for Innovative and Sustainable Technologies for Offshore Infrastructure (CISTOI), paid a visit to Matter – Material Testing and Research Laboratory in Kozhikode.
Matterlab, a NABL-accredited venture of the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS), is a cutting-edge facility that provides comprehensive testing and research services in the civil and construction sectors. Prof. Sundaravadivelu examined the lab’s infrastructure, thoroughly reviewed its operations, and expressed his enthusiasm for the facility’s outstanding technical capabilities.
He was particularly impressed with the copuler testing process and praised the specialists’ rigorous safety procedures. “Labs like Matterlab must evolve into research and knowledge hubs, addressing pressing infrastructural challenges,” he remarked. He emphasised that such facilities should play a larger role in shaping preventive strategies for infrastructure development.
Prof. Sundaravadivelu emphasised recent incidents such as the Wayanad landslip and frequent highway failures in Kerala, urging government agencies and the private sector to use credible facilities like Matterlab to ensure structural integrity, safety, and long-term sustainability in construction projects.
His visit demonstrates the essential role that high-quality research and testing infrastructure plays in advancing Kerala’s infrastructure goals.
