In an attempt to take on the toughest emission norms, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has rolled out its D03CJ. Additionally, the diesel engine manufacturer displayed an array of equipment like agricultural tractor, light towers and DG sets powered by its engines at bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2018. Kenji Kawamoto, Managing Director, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries – VST Diesel Engines Private Ltd, explains how customised solutions are the key to meeting diverse needs of customers.

What are your views on dual-fuel usage notified by road ministry for construction equipment (CE)?
It is a good initiative to reduce pollution. Besides, it would help consumers save cost on fuel. On the other side, we need to see the cost and convenience of retro fitment as well, if the equipment or engine is not capable to run alternate fuels in its present condition. However, any change to protect the environment should be always welcomed and we do! In fact, the engines we have now in India are capable of running on biodiesel fuel.

How are your engines enhancing CE efficiency?
Mitsubishi diesel engines are recognised for their output in the most challenging conditions, owing to expertise in engineering and process where we ensure customers choose the right product. To be precise, we constantly analyse the needs of equipment from the initial discussion with customer and tune the engine exactly into the requirement.Our customised solutions are the key!

How was 2018 for you and what is your outlook for 2019?
Year 2018 was extremely good for us with huge orders from export customers and also from the domestic customers for their export markets. This was mainly on the back of emission norm change over in Europe and North America. For 2019, we have already started supply of engines with advanced norms to Europe and USA. In domestic, our key segment is tractor market that is constantly growing and forecast for 2019 is also very positive. We are leveraging the growth in tractor segment to expand our presence in other applications and territories.
