Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) achieved its 37thbreakthrough on the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 Corridor, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Metro Station. Robbins madeTBM Surya-2 completed its final drive of 569 m from Hutatma Chowk to CSMT MetroStation in 106 days using 418 concrete rings. With this 2.9-km long downline tunnel fromCuffe Parade to CSMT Metro Station is completed.
“Tunnelling in the heritage precinct, which is also in the close proximity to the sea, is adaunting task. MMRCL team of contractors, consultants, engineers and workers scientificallydealt the challenge successfully. I am happy that 96 percent of tunnelling has been completed inpackage-1 by ensuring the safety of the historical buildings,”said Ranjit Singh Deol,Managing Director, MMRC.
Package-1, which includes Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate and Hutatma ChowkMetro stations, has witnessed six breakthroughs (Cuffe Parade to Vidhan Bhavan (Upline–1228m and Downline–1254m), (Vidhan Bhavan to Churchgate (Upline–498m and Downline–481m), (Churchgate to Hutatma Chowk (Upline–654m) and Hutatma Chowk to CSMT(Downline– 569m).
The overall tunnelling completed on the project is 52-km which is approximately 95 percent of thetotal project.
