The project, part of the NH-322 extension, features a 200-metre-long bridge over the Budhi Gandak river and intends to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion between Samastipur and Darbhanga.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved administrative and financial sanction of ₹58.60 crore for the construction of a four-lane road and a new bridge from Magardahghat to Muktapur in Bihar’s Samastipur district.
The project will extend National Highway-322 from Mathurapur to the Muktapur road over bridge (ROB) for 2.056 kilometres. A key component of the effort is the construction of a new 200-metre-long high-load reinforced cement concrete (HLRCC) bridge over the Budhi Gandak River. This new construction will replace the existing old screw pile bridge and will have eight spans, each spanning 24 metres. In addition, the road between chainages 67.471 km and 69.256 km will be enlarged and fortified to accommodate increased traffic volume.
A tender has already been issued, and construction is scheduled to be completed within 24 months. Bihar Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen praised the move, stating that it will greatly improve connectivity between Samastipur and Darbhanga while also reducing congestion.
