Market share of commercial and off-road vehicles are more than 2.5 per cent in India. These vehicles are mandatorily used for business purpose and most of the times overlooked when it comes to maintenance. Today some points in discussion are electrical requirement and battery life of commercial and off-road vehicles. During study it has been observed that electrical connection to various signal either failed or malfunctioning after couple of years from manufacturing date because of poor maintenance.
Studies have revealed that electrical connection fails due to loose connection between two contacts. Connection can be loose due to various reasons like erosion of metal, corrosion of metal, loose fitting, fretting corrosion, etc. Loose connection leads to malfunctioning of electrical signals, failure of electrical signal or electrical system, failure in start-up system, vehicle break down and accident.
Sometimes it has been observed that sulphonation at battery terminal increase arcing during ignition which in contact with hydrogen gas evolved during battery chemical reaction leads to battery explosion, in some cases this sulphonation also reduces battery efficiency, conductivity and premature battery failure.
To avoid failures
Such failures can be reduced with electrical conductive lubrication. This type of lubricants has extremely low volume resistivity, thereby providing almost electrical transparency. It protects surfaces of battery terminal and clamp from effect of moisture, hydrogen as well as oxygen. It forms sufficient lubricating film between two contacts and reduces vibration and fretting corrosion.
Also due to conductive film the media of free electron transfer remain identical, so chance of electrical arcing reduces and thus it protects from major accident like battery explosion. Because of its high operating temperature it resist atmospheric heat radiation as well as heat generation due to electrical supply, work for longer duration. Improved battery operating condition and improved electrical conductivity ensure full battery life to its user. User will be benefited with quick ignition even at cold weather conditions. Specialised feature of such products also resist acidic effect of sulfate/ sulfite, reduces rate of sulphonation to negligible.
Mosil solutions
Mosil Lubricants Pvt. Ltd. is one of leading manufacturers of specialty lubricants in India. Its electrically conductive grease EC – 424 is having above mentioned features and benefits. Few years back, its joint project was done with TATA Motors Ltd., Pune regarding lubrication of electrical contacts in commercial vehicle to reduce electrical system failure.
Its technical team along with TATA Motor’s design team has come up with a success of EC – 424 and overcome problem in electrical system of commercial vehicle. End results were reduced arcing, and failure of battery contacts and electrical lugs, which resulted into safer electrical signalling, prolong battery life, immediate ignition of engine throughout the life, lower energy consumption while ignition and that reduces load on engine. These results in turn improved efficiency of engine and maintained power.
