Mahalakshmi Profiles Pvt Ltd is one of the leading players manufacturing a variety of iron and steel products under the MPL brand. In July 2000, the company had expanded its activities under the forward integration plans and installed a pipe manufacturing division. Further it had expanded its pipe manufacturing by setting up the second and third pipe mills in 2003 and 2008. The firm has also setup a W-strap line to meet the requirement of The Singareni Collieries Co Ltd.

MPL has also expanded into manufacturing scaffolding equipment like cup-lock systems, adjustable props, H-frames. These products could be readily made from the existing products manufactured by the pipe division. Also, the boom seen in the recent years in the construction industry has attracted the promoters into this business. Today, MPL is supplying scaffolding systems to major projects in India.

Scaffolding systems
Scaffolding is a temporary structure used to support people and material in the construction or repair of buildings and other large structures. It is usually a modular system of metal pipes or tubes.

The MPL range of scaffolding systems comprises of cup-lock systems, H-frames, adjustable telescopic props, and cross braces. The company outsources other ancillary products such as wing nuts, joint pin, couplers, and heads. “We understand the gravity of accidents when it comes to support structures in the construction industry – the major consumer of the scaffolding range of products. MS Pipes & Tubes
Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) pipe is made from strips of hot-rolled steel which are passed through forming rolls and welded. MPL manufactures pipes ranging from 15 m NB to 80 mm NB and 1.2 mm to 4 mm thickness, in round, square, and rectangle sections. The company also has the expertise to form customised sections as per the requirement of the customer, subject to size limitations.

HR Coils
Hot Rolled (HR) coils are made after hot rolling operation on MS billets in the rolling mill. The coiling operation facilitates better handling and packaging capabilities, ensuring that the best quality product is delivered to the customer. The sizes in the company’s product portfolio range from 1.2 mm to 4 mm in thickness and 65 mm to 275 mm in width.

W Straps
Cut-to-length hot rolled strips are cold worked to form a “W” shaped profile, and hence the product is called W Straps. These are used for reinforcing the roofs of underground coal mines. “We lay special emphasis on W Straps as it understands the seriousness of any defects in quality of this particular product. Currently, the government owned coal mines are major customers for this product,” informs Agarwal.
