“The need of the hour is to have a mechanism in place which will streamline the on ground execution thus ensuring a long-term demand for all construction equipment,” said Jasmeet Singh, Head – Corporate Communications at JCB India. The Indian construction equipment industry has been going through a period of decline for the past couple of years and the recent few months have had similar output.
However, Jasmeet believes, degrowth in the industry has bottomed out. He said, “The government has been able to stabilise the overall economy and we are already seeing sectors like roads and highways showing some signs of recovery. However, for other sectors to gradually pick up, the government needs to identify projects of national importance and ensure they are implemented expeditiously.”
Right steps in right direction
Sharing his views on India’s potential to be a manufacturing hub for construction equipment industry, Jasmeet noted, India has emerged as one of the potential manufacturing hubs for the industry. “The government has been taking the right steps in the right direction to position India as the preferred manufacturing destination for domestic as well as for global manufacturers,” he said.
Jasmeet also believes that India’s ambitious programs like Make in India, Digital India and Skill India and decisive reforms have immensely helped in boosting the investor confidence. “We have also made significant progress in facilitating business which has been a challenge for the foreign investors. As a next step, the focus should be on creating a favourable domestic eco-system with the championing of select industries for e.g. – auto, construction equipment, textiles and electronic hardware,” he informed.
