PM Modi inaugurates the Sonamarg tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the much-anticipated Sonamarg Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir, a transformative project aimed at enhancing connectivity and addressing long-standing challenges faced by the region.
Shri Modi announces the inauguration of the Sonamarg Tunnel, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. He emphasises that this tunnel will considerably improve the lives of people in Sonamarg, Kargil, and Leh. The Prime Minister stated that the tunnel will alleviate the challenges encountered by avalanches, heavy snowfall, and landslides, which frequently result in road closures. He underlined that the tunnel would improve access to major hospitals and assure the supply of critical supplies, lessening the obstacles that inhabitants experience.
He emphasises that various road and rail connection projects in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled to be completed in the coming days. The Prime Minister addressed another big connectivity project taking place nearby, as well as the excitement surrounding the impending rail connection to the Kashmir Valley. He focuses on the construction of new roads, trains, hospitals, and colleges as part of the new Jammu and Kashmir.
The Prime Minister emphasises the extensive infrastructure development from Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh, stating that Jammu and Kashmir is becoming a hub of tunnels, high bridges, and ropeways, with some of the world’s tallest tunnels and rail-road bridges being built there. He cited numerous significant projects, including the cable bridge that will improve railway connectivity in Kashmir, the Zojila, Chenani Nashri, and Sonamarg tunnels, and the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link.
