The needs across industries are changing. Meeting global quality needs in terms of manufacturing is the need of the hour. Hence, project demands entail meeting challenges by the means of highly qualified personnels. With the addition of newer materials, the manufacturing techniques are to be designed accordingly.
“IIW India has been authorised by the International Institute of Welding to award international welding diplomas to the candidates who fulfil the criteria. Accordingly, project managers who are having stiff competition are looking for these qualified personnels within the country,” says R. Srinivasan, President IIW India (2014-2017), Chairman IIW India Foundation, The Indian Institute of Welding.
The services IIW provides are of utmost important in terms of developing and understanding the total technical needs of welding engineering. IIW India offers various welding programs right from the welders up to senior welding practitioners, since the services provided are of fully knowledge-based activity and with no likelihood of cost being attached to these services.
Programs for different industries’ demands
IIW India designs specific programs for the demands of different industries. They organise annual welding seminars in each centres and also two national events every year. Over 30 different welding awards are offered to outstanding contribution in each of the listed categories.
IIW India organises best welder competition in each of the industrial sectors of the country and selects regional winners who compete in a national competition. The country’s best welders are eligible to participate in the International Welders competition. They also provide training to the international participants to ensure they are placed in a level-playing field.
All programs of IIW are structured to meet the demands of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), small scale industries and other sectors. IIW is also closely associated with Ministry of Skill Development and is the assessing body for capital goods sector, sector skill council for automobiles industries, steel sector.
He adds, “Our strength is the quality of assessment and the structured method of training and guidance.”
Certifications
Recruiting IIW -certified engineers of international diploma holders and the welding inspectors duly certified, would be helpful as they need not spend the time and money to train them as per their requirements. They can even send their present welders to be certified by IIW which is now accredited by QCI under ISO 17024.
Just-in-time manufacturing
“Properly designing the methods of manufacturing techniques and meeting high-quality standards of international market requirements, will strengthen the manufacturer’s position further,” adds Srinivasan.
Recent achievements of Indian space defence and other major sectors highlight the significance of welding. The professional welding engineer of India has ensured that 100 per cent import substation is possible and has exhibited the same successfully, thereby proving ‘Make in India’ is possible.
Properly designing the methods of manufacturing techniques and meeting international standards, will strengthen the manufacturer’s position.
