The TBM, the largest deployed in the country, broke the previous global record of 455.4m for monthly tunnelling done by a 12.19 m Slurry TBM.
The TBM, which is largely discussed today, is India’s largest diameter TBM, ‘MAVALA,’ a 12.19m diameter Slurry TBM working on the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (L&T), having a 4148mm diameter.
Interestingly, MAVALA recently broke the world record of 455.7m excavation in one month by completing 456.72m in a month. The CRCHI, L&T, and Friends Equipment team also completed four breakthroughs in RT03 with TBM Urja and Vindhya and two in RT02 with TBM Avni and Lavi.
The ‘Mavala’ TBM, manufactured by CRCHI for Mumbai Coastal Road Projects, is the largest TBM to date in India. Friend’s Equipment’s CRCHI is a comprehensive solution provider for the underground construction and rail transit industries. The TBM, the largest deployed in the country, broke the previous global record of 455.4 m for monthly tunnelling done by a 12.19-meter Slurry TBM.
Additionally, equipment maintenance is required to achieve maximum efficiency and reliability on-site. The company uses specialised Mobil lubrication services to prevent equipment-related issues and outperform competitors in equipment performance.
Kanwar Abhay Singh, Director of Friends Equipment Heavy Machinery Pvt. Ltd., expresses pride and gratitude for this achievement and says, “It is a great accomplishment for us that India’s largest diameter TBM MAVALA (ZTS12150) has become the best performing TBM in the world, thanks to the combined efforts of the L&T and CRCHI-FEHM teams. We’d also like to take this opportunity to thank L&T for allowing us to be a part of such prestigious projects and for believing in us.”
CRCHI and FEHM are deeply committed to providing our customers with first-rate services throughout the project and contributing to the nation’s growth. We ensure this by providing on-site technical and skill support. For example, at the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, we kept an entire stock of spare parts on-site with 15 Chinese and about 20 Indian TBM experts to provide L&T with 24×7 support, and we did the same for the Bangalore Metro. Even at Bangalore Metro, which has one of the world’s most difficult geologies, our machines have proven their mettle by becoming the best and most efficient performers throughout the project. With the help of L & T, we did the Delhi metro, Patna metro, and Chennai metro projects. Further, we are excited to declare that we have recently been awarded 4 more projects where we will be deploying 2 TBMs for the Chennai metro, 4 TBMs for the Patna Metro, and 4 TBMs for Delhi metro construction projects.
