SEM is a brand owned by Caterpillar that took it over in 2008. According to Sankaranarayanan, Country Sales Manager – SEM, the company has worked with SEM and launched a range of earthmoving products like wheel loaders, motor graders and track type tractor.

Brief about the range of products you are exhibiting at this expo.
We displayed three products -SEM816D track type tractor, SEM656D wheel loader and SEM919 motor grader. Specific to India, these are the three models currently sold in India selected based on market requirement. If you watch these products in different countries, it is pretty different because we wanted to have a specific product for India. These machines are certified by ARAI and meets Bharat Stage III emission norms.

How was 2018 for your business? Please share your outlook for 2019.
Our product range has witnessed good growth across the construction segment. Motor grader performed well with over 40 per cent growth compared to 2017. The same thing happened in wheel loaders as well. Industry’s business intelligence report seems over 40 per cent. The industry went on quite well and we are riding the industry’s momentum.

How can your technology enhance road construction efficiency?
Technology has been a foremost feature on all the CAT machines. We have been pushing technology as an enabler for customer to do their job better and have been successful in deals where customers saw the success. For example, dozers and graders, when put in Caterpillar patented technology, were able to do their jobs better. Customers appreciate the technology when it makes their job simpler and efficient, while cost could be a challenge, affordable technology is the need of the hour. Hence, we are working to offer more and more affordable technology on the machines.
