Rust converter is no-flammable, very safe, water-based primer, contains two active ingredients: Tannic acid and Organic polymer. The ingredient, tannic acid, reacts with iron oxide rust and chemically converts it to iron tannate, a dark-coloured very stable complex compound. The overall chemical reaction converts rust into a stable, blackish / bluish protective polymeric coating that serves as an excellent primer for both oil and epoxy based paints.
Processing of Rust Converter
Rust converter can be used on any and Evert rusty iron or steel fabrications / object. It can be used on every support structures, All MS Plants / Equipments placed, Factory trusees, PEBs, Metal Building, SILOS, Pipe-Lines Tank Farm, Transmission & Signal Towers, Poles and Lamp Posts, and every fabrication operating near Saline and Humid atmospheres. Rust converter will not work on aluminium, copper, stainless steel or galvanized metal. Rust Converter has a shelf life of 12 months from supply date.
Surface for application
Good surface preparation will enable rust converter to work effectively and leads to a high quality end result. Loose & large rust, scale particles on metal structure must be first removed with a stiff bristled brush, hammer, sandpaper or sand / grit / shot blasting. Rust converter chemically bonds to the rust and seals it in. Rust converter cannot penetrate grease or oil. Clean & degrease such surfaces first using thinner, solvent and soap water. Apply rust converter and allow it air-dry. Rust converter should not be thinned, should be applied when it mix the contents before use.
Is it necessary to paint over Rust Converter
For enhanced corrosion protection, we highly recommend applying two coats of a high quality oil-based paint, Zinc Rich Paint over rust converted film on the Fabrication. Use oil based, alkyd, acrylic or epoxy paints, zinc rich paints, to paint over coated Metal. Rust converter will adhere to non-rusted or painted surfaces but it does not provide any additional rust prevention. Rust converter will dry to the touch in approx 20 minutes. Application of a second coating will ensure roper rust conversion. If possible, wait 24 hours before applying a second coat.
Storage
It’s best to store rust converter out of direct sunlight at room temperature. Do not allow to freeze and avoid temperatures above 100 degrees F. One Litre of rust converter covers up to 120 Ft2 of rusted metal by brushing. Porous, textured, Round and Intricate shaped surfaces; fabrications will require a repeated application.
Protection
We do not recommend using a powder coating over the rust converter. This may be confirmed by the user. Use all safety gear, goggles, and rubber gloves aprons. Users will take Total pre-cautions during its usage while coating. Rust converter contains tannic acid and medical attention should be sought immediately if ingested. Apply rust converter when the temp is between 50 & 100 of (Apply at Room Temperature).
Dispose
Rust converter is non flammable, non-toxic, neutral, RoHS compliant and extremely safe for operators. Rust converter will not pollute water. Rust converter can be discharged into your ETP subject to final pH 6.8 to 8.
