Chief Marketing Officer, Shell Lubricants
In the current scenario of Indian construction segment, machine availability, efficiency and capacity are increasing continuously. To meet this demand and reduce the total cost of ownership, Shell Lubricants has been offering products and services that generate immense value to their major customers and OEMs. “The latest products and machinery that we see on the block for construction sector carry much more sophisticated technology, and thus require more advanced lubricants,” opines Neeraj Bhatia, Chief Marketing Officer, Shell Lubricants.
Reducing total cost of ownership
Lubricant technology is driven by the changing needs of customers and OEMs. As industry faces the challenges of improving lube for fuel ratio and lowering the cost of production, a key requirement is to lower the operating costs and total maintenance costs. Hence, the company sees a more rapid adoption of leading edge lubricants that provide energy efficiency, productivity benefits and lower the total cost of ownership. “Shell Lubricants invests heavily in research and development which has enabled the company to be the ‘first to market’ several lubricant innovations and value-added services. By working closely with major off-highway and construction global and local OEMs, our lubricants specialists have developed a deep understanding of construction industry challenges,” informs Bhatia.
In view of these challenges from the off-highway segment, Shell Lubricants have introduced new generation products like Shell Rimula T5 E 10W30 and Shell Gadus S3 V460 D2 in the last 2-3 years. Bhatia claims, “Shell Rimula T5 E 10W30 and Shell Gadus S3 V460 D2 have the potential to revolutionise the sector by helping customers save substantial time and money.”
Greater fuel economy
The company further claims that Shell Rimula T5 E 10W30, API CI4 Plus oil has offered an average fuel economy more than 3 per cent benefits to major construction customers in last year. In Indian construction segment, fuel accounts for major operating cost, often more than 50 per cent. Shell Rimula T5E 10W 30 is introduced after severe and exhaustive testing in Indian conditions. This product contains tailor-made base oil which is made from Shell patented GTL (gas to liquid) technology. “T5E 10W 30 has demonstrated its performance in different OEM Excavators. Recently we have generated 3 value records from the customers in improved fuel efficiency with this product,” avers Bhatia.
Specialty grease for pin bush application
Gadus S3 V 460 D2 is Shell Lubricants specialty grease for pin bush application, which is a major concern for construction and mining excavators, where the pin and bush failure is very common because of lack of load handling capacity and inability to absorb shock load. This grease is a major relief for the customers, where the re-greasing interval has been enhanced to 3 to 4 times in comparable with the conventional EP 2 Grease, asserts Bhatia.
Also, Shell Lubricants claims to have extended the pin and bush life at least by 50 per cent. They have documented value delivery from major mining and construction site on pin bush application in enhancing the pin-bush life and re-greasing intervals through this specialty grease. Thus, the down time and cost of replacement and cost of grease are saved at customer end.
Value-added services
Shell Lubricants offers the value-added services like Shell LubeAnalyst, Shell Lube Video Check and Shell Lube Expert for condition monitoring of oil and equipment performance and improving the lubrication area of each segment.
