IMME 2022 served as a central hub for end-users and our primary customers. This gives us confidence in sustaining our market leadership in safety PPE, says Biman Banerjee, Sr. Manager – Branded Sales, Mallcom India Pvt. Ltd.
How do you evaluate the need to improve industrial safety kits and equipment (PPE)?
India is developing as a country. There are several developments taking place across various industries, including automobiles, steel, mining, and other large corporations. Mining is a large and important industry in India. Every advancement carries the duty of providing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). These kits can be sector-specific, industry-specific, or hazard-specific. As a result, we are heading in that direction to provide answers to the safety concerns that customers in the government and corporate sectors confront.
What challenges did you have trying to get the supplies you needed to make these PPE kits?
Obtaining high-quality raw materials is one of the most difficult difficulties. It’s still tricky, whether it’s PU for safety shoes or yarns for producing gloves. We continue to experience challenges in these areas when manufacturing and converting PPE. Second, the availability of fake safety products is another source of concern in this business, as any reputable company must overcome such quality hurdles. Mallcom, a well-known and well-established brand in the PPE industry, is attempting to address these market concerns and assist customers in obtaining genuine products at genuine prices.
What guidelines and other measures must be put in place to make sure that safety equipment is used at all operations, both on and off-site?
In terms of safety requirements, the Indian government has already codified them through BSI and ISI standards. This applies to the complete product line, including safety shoes, helmets, gloves, and any other PPE required for today’s safety. Furthermore, it is critical that the end-user choose approved products, which are quite vital. Uncertified products may be less expensive, but they may be improper and hazardous when used. As a result, it is vital to adhere to government norms and established requirements. It is the responsibility of major OEMs such as Mallcom to help the client understand the importance of using such certified products.
What role does backward integration play in regulating the quality of raw materials?
We have a dedicated quality control (QC) team in each of our production units. These teams are involved in rigorous R&D testing to ensure consistent quality throughout our product line. Furthermore, we have taken over historic tanneries in order to obtain constant quality leather for creating safety gloves and safety shoes. All of these tests are carried out at our in-house testing laboratories before we put them on the market. This enables us to standardise all of our safety goods in accordance with BIS or EN requirements.
