India’s diverse construction sector is witnessing incredible demand as it received the second highest foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2020- 21, as National Investment and Promotion Facility Agency (NIPFA) reports. The sector today is ripe with opportunities, further facilitated by conducive policymaking and burgeoning population needs. However, the construction sector, continues to encounter regular challenges in preventing unnecessary breakdowns and ensuring machine performance. Thus, for continuity in operations, choosing the correct lubrication solution and servicing partner can be key. As a leading lubrication formulations provider, Mobil™ Lubricants services a variety of heavy industries, of which construction is of key interest.
Construction operations are conducted in difficult conditions with equipment being prone to frequent damage. Recognising the challenge, Mobil has been partnering closely with construction businesses to assist them in overcoming operational challenges and prevent loss of profitability. Mobil’s association with Nar Singh Construction is an instance of such a partnership.
Association with Nar Singh Construction
A construction services company based out of Rajasthan, Nar Singh construction is involved in several heavyduty operations including construction of roads, bridges, electrical infrastructure and more. For its operations, the company has been utilising a popular rockbreaker. The rockbreaker is a powerful percussion hammer fitted to an excavator or backhoe that is used to demolish concrete structures or rocks.
Operating across difficult conditions, the rockbreaker began experiencing some challenges in its functions that were resulting in reduced oil drain interval (ODI) and shortened filter life of 500 hours per equipment. Consequently, this was amounting to lower productivity and increased expenditure on maintenance. Seeking to swiftly resume normalcy in its business operations, Nar Singh Construction reached out to Mobil’s Field Engineering Services (FES) team for advice.
Mobil’s FES team visited the site, reviewed the equipment, and conducted an application assessment study to reach the most precise solution to the problem. The team recommended Nar Singh Construction to begin lubricating its rockbreaker equipment with the Mobil DTE™ 26 Ultra hydraulic oil. A part of the Mobil DTE™ 20 Ultra Series, Mobil DTE 26 Ultra prevents rapid oil oxidation and deposit formation. Further, to monitor oil and equipment performance regularly, the FES team recommended service assistance from the Mobil ServSM Lubricant Analysis (MSLA) programme.
Soon, Nar Singh Construction witnessed improved equipment efficiency and noticeable revenue increase of ` 2,41,067 per equipment. Further, the ODI and filter life increased from 500 hours to 1500 hours, with a significant decrease in oil consumption of 560 litres annually per equipment. Moreover, man-hours for maintenance were reduced by 40 hours. Mobil’s superior solutions and quality assistance through MSLA assisted the construction company in enhancing its output and ensuring long-term efficiency.
Innovation at Mobil
With 150 years of experience in formulating the most advanced lubrication solutions, Mobil Lubricants has earned its reputation as a leading industrial provider. The Mobil DTE 20 Ultra Series is testament to Mobil’s continuous emphasis on innovation and technology upgradation. This series of high-performance anti-wear hydraulic oils comes with extended oil life capabilities that have demonstrated up to 2-times longer oil drain intervals in comparison to similar competitive oils*. They meet the stringent requirements of hydraulic systems using high pressure, high output pumps as well as other hydraulic system components such as close clearance servo-valves and numerically controlled (NC) machine tools.
The products exhibit outstanding oxidation and thermal stability. They allow long oil life and reduced deposit formation in harsh conditions, and with severe hydraulic systems using high pressure, high output pumps. Maintaining clean performance helps protect critical hydraulic system components from malfunction, such as tight tolerance servo and proportional valves found in many modern hydraulic systems. These products have met the most rigorous performance requirements of a wide range of hydraulic systems and component manufacturers, allowing the use of a single product with excellent performance characteristics.
As the construction industry depends extensively on the use of heavy machinery, opting for efficient lubrication solutions is of prime interest. Duly, Mobil has been partnering closely with businesses like Nar Singh Construction to overcome operational challenges and move towards higher productivity and profitability.
Disclaimer: *Mobil DTE 20 Ultra Series oils have demonstrated up to 2-times longer oil drain intervals versus similar competitive oils (ISO VG 46 with a viscosity index around 100 and a zinc-based anti-wear system – meeting at least ISO 11158 (L-HM) and/or DIN 51542-2 (HLP type) requirements) in demanding Mobil Hydraulic Fluid Durability (MHFD) testing. This case study is based on the experience of a single customer. Actual results can vary depending upon the type of equipment used and its maintenance, operating conditions and environment, and any prior lubricant used.
