This collaboration makes Volvo CE’s technology more accessible, user-friendly, and seamlessly integrated into excavators. The Unicontrol 3D system, which has a single interface, will debut in Europe this year, followed by a global rollout.
Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) and Unicontrol have announced a partnership to deploy the software company’s 3D machine control technology into Volvo excavators. The Volvo Co-Pilot will serve as the primary user interface, allowing operators to access Unicontrol3D directly from the Co-Pilot without the need for extra monitors or hardware installation. When customers purchase Co-Pilot with Dig Assist from the factory, all required hardware and software are installed. The only other step required is to launch the Unicontrol3D application, making it easier than ever to get started.
Kurt Deleu, Head of Product Management for Excavators at Volvo CE, says, “We are committed to making advanced technology open, accessible, and easy to use. CoPilot is an open platform where we welcome partners to join us in delivering innovative solutions. Unicontrol is the latest to come on board, bringing seamless and flexible 3D machine control to our customers. Integrated directly into Dig Assist, this collaboration ensures greater freedom, efficiency, and simplicity – without added complexity – on every job site.”

Unmatched flexibility
Unicontrol is a rapidly expanding disruptor in 3D machine control, offering open, adaptable, and cost-effective solutions. Aligned with Volvo CE’s dedication to digital innovation, the Danish-based company will provide additional options for its clients, ensuring they receive the best technology for their needs.
Unicontrol3D is intended to be more flexible than typical closed systems. The program interfaces effortlessly with any excavator, data format, or workflow, allowing contractors to optimise their mixed fleets without being limited to a single ecosystem.
Niels Bjerregaard, CEO at Unicontrol, mentions, “The demand for flexible and accessible 3D machine control has never been higher. The intended partnership between Volvo CE and Unicontrol will set a new standard by prioritising efficiency, adaptability, and ease of use.”
