Modern wastewater management demands intelligent, efficient and innovative solutions for various applications and situations. Industrial pumps are used widely for wastewater management systems, and different pumps are used in the treatment process. The pumps should be sustainable, reliable, cost effective and environmental friendly.

Some of the wastewater management pumps are as follows:

1. Wastewater handling pumps
The SE and SL pumps that come with trim technology provide technologically advanced pumps for wastewater handling. These pumps are designed for handling wastewater, process water and sewage in heavy-duty municipals, domestic, commercial and industrial applications. These heavy duty wastewater pumps offer total, wire-to-water efficiency and are available with efficient S tube channel or Super Vortex impellers allowing for free passage of solids up to 80 mm.

“The SE and SL pumps reduce the risk of clogging, and ensure maximum up-time and low operating costs. With the S tube impeller, the pump efficiencies can go up to 83.4 per cent,” informs Balaji Seshadri, Head – Service and Engineering (Mechanical and Tech Support), Grundfos Pumps Pvt Ltd.

The SE pumps can be permanently installed by means of an auto-coupling system or with a fixed pipe connection, submerged or dry, without separate motor cooling arrangements. The SL pumps that can be only installed submerged are also suitable for free-standing installation, or as portable utility pumps.

2. Submersible drainage pumps
The DPK range of submersible drainage pumps provides effective surface water drainage that comes with easy installation and has high-pressure capabilities. These pumps are reliable and are easy to service.

“Pumps are compactly designed, considering the pressure capabilities on offer. These ranges of pumps that are of solid cast-iron construction are perfect for drainage pit applications in buildings, courts drainage solutions and other industrial applications. They can be simply used on an auto-coupling rail or as free-standing with a flexible hose or flange connection. They are the most cost-effective drainage solution offered,” explains Seshadri.

3. Durable, compact dewatering pumps
The DWK range pumps are durable and compact dewatering pumps. These submersible contractor pumps are highly efficient and wear-resistant impellers. They are easy to install and ensure an increased lifetime because of its stainless steel high chrome impeller.

“The high efficiency motor used in DWK range pumps cut down the operating costs and maintains even performance throughout. The solid cast iron construction and narrow design of the pumps is ideal for pits, for temporary or fixed installation and can be used in any situation where effective dewatering is needed. This range of pumps can be used in underground drainage pits in buildings, courts drainage solutions and for various industrial applications. The easy to install pumps perform great even when hindered with sand or abrasives or in limited power supply thus making it an effective dewatering solution,” says Seshadri.

4. Domestic sewage transfer pumps
The SEG range pumps or grinder pumps are tough, versatile pumps for domestic sewage transfer. In areas where there are no sewer systems, or where gravitation systems are unsuitable, pressurised systems are the preferred option to transfer effluent and domestic sewage to the public sewer or sewage treatment plant.

“Grundfos offers the perfect pump for domestic sewage transfer, facilitating the use of smaller pressure pipes with minimal investment cost. The SEG range pumps are highly efficient with improved discharge pressure. They are cost effective and are used in untreated domestic and commercial sewage application, pressurised sewage systems and in stationary or portable pump pits,” claims Seshadri.

5. Submersible sewage pumps
The S range pumps are submersible sewage pumps, which are robust, reliable pumps that are designed to handle unscreened raw sewage and large quantities of raw water in wastewater. They are specifically constructed to work under the most demanding operating conditions.

“Submersible sewage pumps are available with a highly efficient channel impeller. Dry installation option is also available in these pumps when the pump is fitted with a cooling jacket. They are widely used in wastewater treatment plants, raw or potable water intake and distribution, industry or corrosive liquids, large-scale buildings and in building facilities like car parks, hotel facilities,” briefs Seshadri.

6. Submersible wastewater pumps
The SLV and SL1 pumps are heavy-duty submersible wastewater pumps. The pumps have lowest life cycle cost and come with trouble free operation and non-clogging capabilities.

With the S-tube, Grundfos has set new standards for wastewater hydraulic design. The S-tube resolves the challenges with sealing, vibration, abrasive wear and clogging that wastewater pumping stations have been facing for long. SL models have motors based on Eff1 components, improving motor efficiency and prolonging pump life. This range of pumps can be used for various applications like at network pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants, public buildings, flats, municipal wastewater, wastewater with ?bres, drainage and groundwater, industrial wastewater and process and cooling water,” advises Seshadri.

7. Pumps to handle wastewater, process water, unscreened raw sewage
“The SEV and SE1 range pumps are advanced pumps from Grundfos that are technologically advanced flexible pumps designed to handle wastewater, process water and unscreened raw sewage in heavy-duty municipal, utility and industrial applications,” says Seshadri.

The SEV and SE1 pumps come with easy operation and can operate submerged or dry without motor cooling and are extremely reliable. These ranges are easy to install and are ideal for large flows, with efficient single channel or Super Vortex impellers providing free passage of solids up to 100 mm. This greatly reduces the risk of clogging and ensures maximum up-time and reduces operating costs.

The pumps have unique cable entry; a polyurethane-filled stainless steel cable connection that provides a hermetically sealed cable entry. This helps in eliminating the risk of water entering the motor through the cable. They can be used at network pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants, public buildings, ?ats and other drainage and groundwater applications.

8. Mixed flow pumps
The KPL and KWM range of pumps are mixed flow pumps that give customised solutions to users. These pumps help in handling large amounts of water from a wide range of submersible axial flow propeller pumps and mixed flow pumps depending on the demands with a motor range from 15 kW up to 650 kW. The pump can be optimised to any specific task. The pumps are highly reliable and are energy efficient.

“The KPL and KWM range of pumps are used under applications like flood and storm water control, large-volume drainage and irrigation, raw water intake, circulation of large quantities of water, e.g. in water parks, water-level control in coastal and low-lying areas, filling and emptying of dry docks and harbour installations, filling or emptying of reservoirs, treated sewage, cooling water intake in power stations, process and discharge water and other low to medium head or high flow applications,” informs Seshadri.

9. Dewatering solution for flood
MPS 101 is made to suit requirements for pumping the excess rainwater and is one of the best dewatering solutions for flood situations. MPS helps to pump out the flooded water and is towed on to the place from where the rainwater is flooded and can be pumped out.

“The water from the low-lying areas can be pumped to the nearest drain pit and the place can be kept dry in a matter of hours. The entire unit is easy to handle and operate. The unit needs no external power supply or lifting equipment as system has inbuilt power supply as well as lifting arranging. Entire system can be towed by any small lorry or tractor. Pump consumes low fuel and the unit can be operated with limited man power resources. They can be used for flood control and drainage, irrigate for agriculture and aquiculture and drainage for industry and municipal project,” illuminates Seshadri.
