A lot is happening in the motor development area where we are also working. In Bauma, Germany, we have presented our new winch with our own-designed high-torque MP motor. The results in manoeuvrability and efficiency were impressive, and orders have started to come in already for fully electrical cranes.

Innovations in commercial and industrial gearbox business

In the gear business, much study is ongoing, both in terms of material, processes, and design. There is a need for more compact, lightweight, and cost-effective solutions. In the industrial segment, there is a growing use of planetary gearboxes due to their flexibility in ratio, power density, ease of installation, and high efficiency. Again, most of the innovation is happening on the electronic side. Products such as our load detection system and torque control are growing.

Global supply challenges and their impacts on procurement of metal and technology

They have indeed been a challenge, and from time to time, they still are. However, we have adjusted to the scenario and minimised disruptions as a company.

We have become a more local company, with most components and materials sourced locally rather than imported. Of course, India is doing a lot to improve the availability of raw materials and technology.

We have also worked heavily to diversify sources and reduce dependency on a specific geographic area. Covid has taught us a lot, and the subsequent reactions to the supply chain disruptions were a very relevant wake-up call. Most of the contingency plans worked, and those that needed adjustment were also revised. Since we have branches worldwide, the sourcing and supply chain flexibility immensely helped us.

If we speak about our winch product line, I am trying to remember all two products that are the same. Most of what we do is tailored, starting with a clear understanding of the customer’s need, application constraints, and experience.

The critical part is the early stage of design and selection, where the main choices are made. A lot of discussions are had with the customer just for this reason. We also thoroughly follow up on any new application to ensure it delivers.

For the mining industry, our products have been well-established for many years and have a large customer base here in India. We can provide gearboxes and ancillary custom equipment such as cooling units, cabling, hydraulics, frames, platforms, torque arms, load detection systems, and combined gearboxes.

Concerning mobile, we mainly provide drives, winches, and slewing equipment. All of them are tailor-made, even if the hearth is based on standard designs.

As of today, we are completing our new facility, where we can further work on this aspect.

Safety standards and certification aspects of obtaining optimum performance efficiency

All of our products are designed as per CE standards. Transmission and cinematics are designed based on dedicated software with adequate safety parameters to prevent failure. Materials are selected accordingly, and we can provide them even at low temperatures such as -40 o or -50 o.

Safety is even more relevant if we speak about winches, where the main application is hoisting loads. All winches have negative brakes, OVC braking for hydraulics and brake motors in the case of electrical, and every single product is tested on a test bench to ensure safety and functionality. Then we also have options for a sprag clutch, a dual OVC, a dynamic brake, a calliper brake, and emergency brakes.

With any product, we can provide life expectations according to international standards and standards requested by the customer. Since we export quite a lot from our India operations, We make sure that standards are always met.
