Arunachal Pradesh government has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) to develop 13 hydro power projects likely to generate 13,000 MW of power in the state.

These projects will bring in an investment of around ₹ .1.4 lakh crore to the state. As power demand in India is increasing rapidly, the government is making efforts to tap into the available hydro power capacity. At present, the country’s hydro power capacity is 47,000 MW, which is 35 percent of available hydro power potential.

importance of hydro projects has augmented since the country seeks to make energy transitions, reduce emissions and move to renewables. The country’s power demand will double by 2030, its total consumption is 1,600 billion units as of now, which is likely to reach around 3,000 billion units.
