Ryuji Nagase, Managing Director Mitsubishi Heavy Industries – VST Diesel Engines Pvt. Ltd in an interview with B 2B Purchase
Can you talk about the latest manufacturing technologies in place at your facility?
Mitsubishi offers diesel engines with the performance and quality to meet the global competitive level. Mitsubishi produces world-class quality to meet market demands from its Indian production base. Our engines are capable of meeting the world’s toughest emission standards. It is Tier IV final approved for the USA and can meet EU Stage V for Europe and India. We are supplying to customers who are exporting to large areas.
What is the particular market in which you are trying to gain traction with your products?
Indian customers are the primary market. Indian OEMs are so named because we have a subsidiary production unit in India. Our Indian plant currently produces engines up to 50 HP, and we have done well in the tractor market because this range covers the majority of the Indian tractor industry. Today, we are the preferred engine partner for Orchard Tractors, and with that success, we are working on many other tractor projects too. In the construction equipment industry also, the above range of engines can cater well to equipment like mini excavators, light towers, site dumpers and so on. But the annual market size of such equipment is just in the hundreds, and many of them are imported now. We are confident that this scenario will change when the country keeps developing its infrastructure.
What are the latest technologies or products in place at your facilities?
We are improving our product and manufacturing process by incorporating technologies such as VPM, QR codes, and barcodes for improving quality and manufacturing data management. It is also equipped with an in-house emission test bed capable of meeting global emission regulations like Tier IV final and EU Stage V.
How would you say the digital process is impacting the manufacturing process positively?
We have adopted and incorporated several digital processes in our operation line, like multi spindle nut runners for critical engine part assembly and other assembly, machining, and inspection processes through visual process management. We were able to effectively monitor the overall equipment efficiency, thereby improving the operational and quality of manufactured products. Therefore, they respond faster to the changing market requirements and customer demands.
What are your future expectations for Mitsubishi, especially in the context of India for the next four years?
We expect to maintain good relationships with our existing customers and have confidence in considering us for their upcoming new development based on our engine performance and quality. India has emerged as the fastest-growing major economy in the world and is expected to be one of the top three economic powers in the world over the next 10- 15 years, backed by its robust democracy and strong partnerships. Over the last decade, infrastructure growth has been exponential. Today, we are the fourth largest and probably the second-fastest growing economy, with infrastructure being one of the cornerstones.
