With depleting ground water level and rapid urbanisation, the water pumps market in India is witnessing an exponential growth. It is projected that water pump market in India is set to surpass $3.8 billion by 2022, according to India Water Pumps. Also, increasing focus towards improved water managementwill further drive the demand for water pumps in the country.
Increasing focus on development initiatives such as smart cities, metro projects, airports will see a demand for intelligent water and wastewater management solutions. These solutions will automatically mean, a greater demand for intelligent and energy-efficient pumps, according to Shankar Rajaram, Vice President of Business Development, Grundfos Pumps India.
A positive phase
Pumps and valves industry is witnessing positive changes in last couple of years as the demands from ever growing construction segment is soaring high due to the rise in constructions of skyscrapers and infrastructures where pumps and valves find immense applications says Rakesh Kumar, Vice President – Business Development, Zoloto Industries.
Newer technologies and shortage of construction lands in the metro cities have seen the widespread proliferation of high-rise buildings in all the metro cities has put enormous pressure on the utility services that are provided in these structures.
“One of the major issue faced is the generation of excessive water pressure the piping systems there by demanding very high-quality pressure reducing valves (PRVs) and ball valves for efficient operations and water saving,” he adds.

Grundfos’ demand-driven distribution
Grundfos’ demand-driven distribution (DDD) is another unique pumping solution where the supply of water is programmed as per the demand at the consumer’s end. This system can automatically monitor grid use patterns with remote sensors and adjust the water pressure accordingly. This reduces both water and electricity consumption by up to 20 per cent and water pipes will last longer because they are less likely to crack.
Grundfos Remote Management
Another interesting offering is the Grundfos Remote Management – an internet-based, secure and technologically advanced system for monitoring and managing pump installations in commercial buildings, water supply networks, wastewater plants, etc. Through this system, pumps in an entire commercial building complex, water and wastewater treatment plants can be remotely monitored from a control room with minimal human intervention.
Forged Brass Ball Valve
Zoloto has recently launched Forged Brass Ball Valve with aluminium handle. The salient feature of this Pressure Die Casted Aluminium alloy (ADC-6) provides the best combination of strength, ductility and corrosion resistant finished qualities, says Kumar.
Zoloto Wafer type butterfly valves comes in compact light weight designs and with low operation torques to ensure longer life, its self-cleaning and non-jamming seat design features to result into less wear and tear etc.

In these upcoming smart cities, an important aspect is the usage of energy efficiently, in any domain. At present the total energy consumed by pumps, is around 10 per cent of the world’s total energy. With every other 9 out of 10 pumps proving to be inefficient, the strain of energy providers is immense. The government is faced with a challenge of providing a solution that can help lower this figure.
