Vedanta Aluminium CEO John Slaven will focus on driving the industry’s transformation through cutting-edge innovation, as well as promoting a more sustainable future across the whole aluminium value chain.

Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium manufacturer, has appointed its CEO, John Slaven, as Vice-Chairman of the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). John Slaven will lead worldwide efforts aimed at facilitating the long-term development of the aluminium sector and promoting aluminium’s important role in allowing the energy transition to a zero-carbon world.

The International Aluminium Institute (IAI), founded in 1972, is the only organisation representing the main aluminium sector globally. Its mission is to raise knowledge of the industry’s activities, advocate for responsible production, and highlight the considerable benefits of employing aluminium in the development of greener technology. The present IAI membership includes the world’s top bauxite, alumina, and aluminium producers. It also has the most extensive global data on the aluminium industry, with over 40 years of analysis of production, consumption, energy use, and environmental impact.

Commenting on his appointment, John Slaven, CEO, of Vedanta Aluminium, says, “I am delighted to accept the responsibility of Vice-Chairman of the International Aluminium Institute. Mr. Slaven is a renowned global leader with over three decades of extensive experience in the metals, mining, and contemporary manufacturing industries. Through various positions in prominent companies in these industries, he has helped change the whole domain in transformative ways. Mr. Slaven is currently the CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, overseeing all areas of the company’s growth plan while also prioritising ESG activities and advocating for the incorporation of sustainable practices. According to the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023, Vedanta Aluminium is now the world’s most sustainable aluminium firm under his leadership.

Vedanta Aluminium, a unit of Vedanta Limited, is India’s largest aluminium manufacturer, accounting for more than half of total aluminium production in FY24, or 2.37 million metric tonnes.
