Masonary Water Repellents
 
Momentive performance materials launched two new products, Impregnating agent WSR & SO, giving you the unique combination of hydrophobic (water repellent) and oleophobic (oil repellent) properties on different mineral substrates.
 
Product properties: Impregnating agent WSR is a water-based emulsion of an alkylated alkoxysiloxane and a fluoro polymer.
 
The water-based product: ‘Impregnation Agent WSR’ is emulsified with the patented JET technology producing a pretty small and uniform particle size. This technology results in an easy to dilute, stable emulsion which readily penetrates in porous mineral substrates. Depending on the requirement of the specific surface either the solvent based or the water-based Impregnating Agent will show superior performance and hence will be your material of choice.
 
According to your requirements the emulsion needs to be diluted ½ to 1/5 parts/volume with tap water and can be applied to your masonry surface (like concrete, terracotta, calcium silicate brick, natural stone, plaster and brick) with all standard processes (paint, brush, spray or roll). Results of the standard tests are shown in attached graphs/tables and pictures.
 
As the material is just impregnating the porous surface and is non film forming, the water vapor permeability will not be significantly decreased. This enables treated walls to transport water vapor from interior rooms to the outside, reducing algae and fungi growth in your living environment.
 
Impregnating Agent WSR (SO) protects your surface from oil-based stains and water. Water absorption and the anti- stain performance of the new emulsion WSR have been compared to standard, readily available products in the market and to untreated substrates. The products tested are: Baysilone emulsion WSR, A fluoro polymer, best in class; according to our experience, A siloxane emulsion, Again the best in class, A fluoro- silane, an organic anti-stai product (org. AS)
 
The staining substance put on the treated surface was left there for five hours after which the whole surface was cleaned with tap water only. Apparently the droplets on the treated surface did not spread out and did not penetrate into the surface. Therefore the stains can be easier removed with a tissue at any time. However, even after leaving the stain for 5 hours, depending on the type of substrate and amount of applied material, you will see minor remainings after cleaning with tap water.
 
With impregnating agent WSR and impregnating agent SO you will have the unique combination of water & oil resistance on different type of substrates. These properties will significantly improve the appearance of your natural surface even with a minimum of maintenance effort. This ensures to keep your mineral substrates clean and gives an exclusive appearance even for many years!
