Sanjay Kumar Khemka, Managing Director, Pinax Steel. In an Interview with B2B Purchase.
Can you brief us about your products and solutions for PEB and structures for construction buildings?
Recently, we completed three financial years (2019–2022) in the pre-engineered steel building (PEB) industry. Out of these three FYs, almost 1.5 years remained unexploited owing to the devastating spell of the COVID-19 pandemic across the world. In whatever little time we could manage to do the business, we had already supplied multi-storey buildings for commercial purposes, industrial sheds with EOT cranes, GIS buildings for electrical substations, heavy industrial sheds, and simple warehouses, among others, which are made with the concept of PEB.
PEB itself has come a long way, and nowadays, not only huge warehouses but also high-rise buildings are built with PEB. We have already enhanced our capabilities and improvised our systems to take up more challenges and execute complex PEB structures in the coming days.
How do you evaluate the aesthetic requirements while designing your products and solutions?
Since its inception, one of the major attributes on which any PEB is sold is its aesthetic appeal. Unlike in conventional column-truss structures or in-situ fabricated sheds, the finishing of any PEB is far superior because of the manufacturing standards followed by any reputed brand. This is one of the reasons, why a client must pay more than they would for traditional constructions or on-site manufacturing. We were aware of this factor from the beginning, and we have always strived to improve the aesthetics of any of our delivered PEB structures. We always keep a tab on newer developments in the PEB industry and outside, so that we can deliver our PEBs to the best satisfaction of our customers as far as aesthetics are concerned. Our design engineers, drafting team, production team, and erection engineers continue to focus on how to improve the appearance of our PEBs so that they eventually become our most coveted credentials and best performing “sales people.”
What kind of investments have been made to enhance R & D practises at your organisations to offer precision?
The building materials industry as a whole is going through changes every day. Owing to technological inventions, new products and concepts are being introduced on a regular basis industry, and cannot be considered an outlier. Engineers, architects, consultants, and end-users are introducing new requirements that must be met in order to compete. For that, we have been participating in industrial fairs, interacting with various product developers, subscribing to technical magazines, attending webinars by stalwart technocrats, and experimenting with ideas in-house to develop better products and services. Our sales team, design engineers, procurement team, production team, and erection engineers are sharing ideas and experiences, so that we can do R & D and implement new technology in our system. Maybe we are new entrants, but that has not deterred us from experimenting and taking up challenges. We are regularly investing in equipment, technology, software, etc. to make Pinax a brand to reckon with.
How are technology-enabled solutions enabling you to offer cost-efficient services for industrial PEB and roofing projects?
It is a known fact that with the advent of technology, human errors have been substantially minimised and precision has been achieved. There cannot be any doubt that the less there is an error, the less there is wastage or cost overrun. If we can reduce the cost of production with the implementation of the latest technology, we can pass on the same benefits to our customers. Through this process, we can be ahead of the competition and increase our business volumes. We are using smarter software to optimise our estimations, smoothen our indenting process and sequential despatch, and manage project cash flows. We have already installed ERP to control the whole flow-chart of our PEBs, starting from enquiry generation to the collection of completion certificates. In totality, all these contribute to minimising wastage and finishing projects on time to the best of customers’ expectations.
