Trimble introduced the Building Information Modelling (BIM) and analysis and design solution for engineering and construction—Tekla Structural Designer 2016. The new solution, designed with BIM in mind, provides enhanced collaboration and workflow efficiency for structural steel and concrete designers. “With Tekla Structural Designer, one can create physical, information-rich models that contain all the intelligence needed to fully automate the design and manage project changes to achieve faster design times and maximise profitability,” Trimble claims.

Tekla Structural Designer 2016 is an engineering tool for analysing and designing buildings efficiently and profitably. The new software delivers exceptional performance in both modelling and processing time, when analysing and designing structures, and can easily handle larger and more demanding models. Tekla Structural Designer has been developed specifically to help the design engineer maximise collaboration with other project parties, including technicians, fabricators and architects.
The software has significant seismic design capabilities with additional structural design and detailing checks for concrete structures to Indian design codes, Eurocodes (UK, Ireland, Singapore, Malaysia), US codes, British Standards and Australian Codes, all available in single package, enabling design of steel and concrete buildings in higher classified earthquake regions. Designing pad and strip foundations to a range of international codes within the same model environment is easily possible.
Tekla Structural Designer 2016 joins open BIM workflows with IFC compatibility, enabling smoother processes and reduced manual work. The users can share and review their designs with other project disciplines even at a very early stage of the Design-Build-Operate (DBO) workflow.
