As the Indian government all set to make its entry in to bullet train segment, CRCHI would like to explore the opportunity.
China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co Ltd (CRCHI) is a professional enterprise which has integrated research, design, manufacture and service of high-end underground engineering equipment and track equipment. In China, the company has significant footprint with abundant tunnel construction experience across landmark projects such as Beijing Metro, Nanning Metro and Kunming Metro.
CRCHI exports its products to countries like USA, Sierra Leon, Saudi Arabia, Tiawan and Nigeria. Seeing the opportunities, the company has entered in to Indian market through a partnership with Mumbai-based Friends Equipment. Commenting on the company’s interest in the Indian market, Billy Peng, Sales Manager of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co Ltd said, “CRCHI is also looking to expand its business beyond China and Indian market is growing exponentially that offers tremendous potential for underground engineering equipment and track equipment business. That leads us to venture in to the Indian market.”
Billy was present at the Friends Equipment stall during Excon 2015. Commenting on CRCHI’s partnership with Friends Equipment, he said, “With years of experience, Friends Equipment has very good understanding about the Indian market. Moreover, the company represents a few other Chinese companies from the construction equipment vertical. So we funded on Friends Equipment in the Indian market.”
India has a very aggressive plan of infrastructure building especially in the roads, railways and metro. The mission of building 10 more metro projects, 30-kms roads a day will remain unaccomplished without advanced construction solutions. “Our tunnelling machines and track equipment can play very effective role in executing such large-scale projects within strict timeline,” said Billy.
Explaining the advantages of TBMs offered by his company, Billy said, “We offer advanced tunnelling solutions and metering equipment that has higher output menu which is good to make tunnels. The use of such machines can result in significant saving of power, labour and even money.”
Rajeev Kumar, CEO of Friends Equipment who was also present at the occasion said, “In India, due to dense population, underground pipeline network construction is a basic requirement to guarantee the people’s livelihood. Thus, we think that there will be a big increase in the specialised construction demand in Indian market.”
Seeing the potential Friends Equipment is keeping a close eye on Indian market. Rajeev said, “Though selling equipment will remain our focus, we along with our OEMs will build professional plants in India for machine repair and maintenance to meet wide market prospects and large demands.”
Buoyed at ‘Make in India’ initiative, Friends Equipment plans to set up joint venture enterprises with the companies involved in specialised equipment at an appropriate time.
Customisation and services
Tunnelling and underground engineering technology needs certain amount of customisation depending upon the local geological conditions. According to Billy, CRCHI offers tailor-made TBM designed based on local geology. He said, “Most of the Indian cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru are based on hard rocks and soft soil. So we make machines according to the local geology that can withstand even on the mixed ground conditions and give the better performance than our competition.
The company also positioned a service team from China with Friends Equipment.
Future roadmap
As the Indian government all set to make its entry in to bullet train segment, CRCHI would like to explore the opportunity, said Billy.
