SRMB is focused both on forward and backward integration in the manufacturing process, which further ensures lower costs, says Ashish Beriwala, Director of SRMB.

The latest budget release gave infrastructure projects a lot of attention. What opportunities do you believe cater to your business?

A healthy budget contains a balanced combination of capital expenditures and nuanced social spending. It meets current societal requirements while investing heavily in the country’s future. So, it’s a very balanced budget; it’s a growth-oriented budget, and it should undoubtedly drive the economy to a better economic trajectory.

Do you believe that the availability of raw materials and prices will continue to be a concern for this firm in the long run, notwithstanding the BCD exemption?

SRMB today is a TMT brand, which is preferred by top construction companies like BKT, DBL, Gammon India, KPTL, etc. along with leading real estate companies. Our products are also the preferred choice of thousands of direct consumers who are buying through our wide channel sales network available in more than 15 states of India.

The government, I believe is fully sanitized towards ill effects on the local industry due to unethical dumping of products. Our government has been taking a balanced approach between protecting the local industry from any unethical dumping by a foreign source while at the same time ensuring the availability of a wider choice of products and suppliers to the Indian consumer. Therefore, the government is attentive; if they discover that any policy intervention is needed to safeguard against unethical or illegal dumping, the government has initiated requisite policy intervention to protect the interest of local industry in the past.

The government is promoting the reuse of metal scrap for various purposes. How do you look at this step?

This is a positive move. Metal scrap waste in steel making is one of the most energy-efficient and ecologically benign methods accessible, compared to utilising virgin coal, which creates more pollution. Therefore, this is a welcome move and a step on the right path.

How does SRMB contribute to sustainability?

We were recently recognised as a “green steel company” by CII. We are also an ISO 14001 firm. We are a green company in terms of steel manufacturing and have undertaken various carbon mitigation investments at our plant to become a carbon neutral company. So, we are aware of our responsibilities in that regard. We recently finished installing a 3.5MW solar plant at our plant through TATA POWER.

What types of projects do you want to explore in the long term?

We are continuously exploring possible future investments both in  backward and forward integration projects.

Additionally, discussing cost efficiency, how does it affect total manufacturing quality?

Cost-cutting should never come at the expense of quality; quality is everything.

Therefore, our entire cost efficiency measures are focussed on achieving cost reduction through, the elimination of wastage and optimization of production/cost resources.  We are fortunate that in today’s day and age of Automation, AI, and various other technological innovations one can achieve better productivity, and improved quality while at the same time reduction of cost.

How much influence do these factors have on project deadlines? Project timelines were compromised during the COVID, not only for us but also for other organizations. There are a few external issues at times that influence project timelines. However, we try our best to accomplish such projects timelines within the stipulated deadlines with best-in-class quality.
