About 25 years ago, three electronic engineers, based out of Durban, South Africa, with previous experience in cathodic protection on ships and pipelines got together to try and overcome the many pitfalls of electronic rust protection for open air structures. They identified that if there was a way to combine the two proven technologies, impressed current and sacrificial anode, they could get the best of both and find an effective way to protect an open air structure using electronic rust protection. Combining these two technologies was a complex procedure as it is not a case of having them run in tandem; they need to be fully integrated. In 1988, after months of testing and adjusting, they developed a method to have success in what they set out to achieve, and the first RustStop was made.
The first model was RustStop RS-5. Later on RustStop also introduced more traditional rust protection coatings RX100 the same product was upgraded with same features and added advantage with standing high temperature and fully cure in atmospheric temperature within 24 hours. RustStop identifies great potential to use its expertise and experience of over two decades in electronic rust protection in industrial sector, automobile sector, household, construction, mining as well as marine. The technology for protecting open air structure had been developed in the form of RX200 and RSI mainly for industrial, marine and any such structure to be protected from rust. The other range is for automotive industries in the form of RS-5 and RX200.

RustStop RX200 is a unique product that can be applied to bare, painted or already rusted metal, and fully cures to form a transparent, flexible coating providing rust protection under the harshest conditions. It is designed to be a stand-alone product.

How does rust form?Any steel contains millions of free-electrons which are negatively charged and move around in the metal due to positive and negative charge differences caused mainly by impurities in the steel.
These small charge differences (normally around 1 Volt) act almost like a magnet, and so the negative free-electrons are attracted toward and accumulate at the positive points.
When these free-electrons are exposed to oxygen and moisture, a reaction occurs and they are lost from the steel. This reaction is known as oxidation or RUST.
How does RustStop RS-5 work?RustStop Rs-5 outputs a positive charge onto the Rust Magnets, approximately 50 times greater than that between the impurity and iron atoms. The iron and impurity atoms are now effectively all negatively charged in relation to the strong positive charge on the Rust Magnets and so the free-electrons are attracted towards the Rust Magnets.
Thus any rust that would have formed on the vehicle is now transferred to the anodes which corrode away and are replaced every few years. This is a technology that has been used for over 70 years on ships and underground pipelines, but could not be used on open air structures due to the lack of an electrolyte. The specially designed, secret composition open cell tape acts as a constant electrolyte even in dry conditions and responds to changes in humidity and moisture to increase protection when needed most. The intelligent electronics used also detects which area needs most protection and delivers the appropriate current to those anodes. The 12 Volt RS-5 comes with 4 anodes suitable for cars, 4WDs and smaller motorhomes and the 24 volt version comes with 6 anodes suitable for larger caravan, trucks, trailers, cranes, buses etc. etc.
RustStop RSI: Industrial electronic rust protectionRustStop RSI works along the exact same principals as the RS-5, except on a larger scale. The RSI module can run off mains supply, battery banks or even solar power for remote areas. The standard RSI uses 18 anodes, but custom designs can be done for major applications. The RSI system also has added features where it can detect individual current flow and voltage on each anode and a complex display panel indicates the status of the system.Two new RustStop products will be launched which are RXT (temporary) rust protections designed to be used as temporary protection for metal components during transit, shipment or during transport of equipment, components standing for long period before it can be used. Thereafter using NS 25 as a cleaner will easily remove RXT without damaging surface. It is environmental friendly as well as non-itching ready-to-use solvent base cleaner.
Product to be launched in 2016RustStop is always working on new products, one of the major projects include a unique electronic rust protection device designed for protecting the reinforcement steel bars used in concrete slabs in partnership with a major construction company in the USA. This product is still under development and is expected to be available in the market by early 2016. The RustStop chemical range is also expanding with various new products on the horizon like rust looseners, lubricants and rust converters.
