The ability to reactivate in the presence of water gives Krystol-treated concrete the ability to “self-seal” For over a decade now, laws governing construction and buildings have upped the demand and added new clauses on rehabilitation and repair. It has become essential to repair buildings at various points in its structural life. These laws have come from the need identified where buildings in India are at a higher risk of damage due extreme weather conditions and short deadlines. Leaks and cracks are the most common reasons a building seeks repair. In fact, this is such a common occurrence that waterproofing and crack repair industry is now seen as a big market and is attracting the best names across the globes. Companies are producing special products and services exclusively for water proofing repair and rehabilitation. The problem however is that most of these are temporary in nature, expensive, difficult to apply and come with no guarantee.Solution Since the inception of Kryton in India, two decades ago, many high ticket infrastructure projects such as BPCL refinery (Bina, Madhya Pradesh), Sewage Pumping Station (Jasola, Delhi), Vottigedda Reservoir (Andhra Pradesh), and Yoggivemana reservoir project (Andhra Pradesh) have approached Kryton to find the right solution for heavy leakage in different areas of their structure. Each of these projects needed a solution that would not just work instantly but also permanently. The Kryton Buildmat (Kryton India) team visited each site, got to the root of the problem and suggested solutions that were customised to the need. These solutions worked and the projects (some as old as 1999) are dusty dry till date with the award-winning Krytsol Technology. The Krystol technology is unique in terms of not just its chemical properties, but also physical properties. This technology uses water as a catalyst to create millions of long, narrow crystals within the concrete itself. These crystals permanently fill the pores, capillaries and hairline cracks of the concrete mass, and continue to grow throughout the concrete, reaching lengths of many inches over time. Once the concrete has cured, the crystalline chemicals sit dormant until another dose of water (such as through a new crack) causes the chemical reaction to begin again. The ability to reactivate in the presence of water gives Krystol-treated concrete the ability to “self-seal”. When cracks form due to curing shrinkage, settling, seismic activity, etc., water entering through them causes new crystals to form and grow, blocking and filling the cracks. This ability to self-seal can help to dramatically reduce the long-term maintenance and repair costs of a concrete structure. In India, Kryton promises a 10-year guarantee for every project it undertakes, and has many structures that have outlived their warranties and are still dusty dry today. Kryton India is headed by Civil Engineers with decades of Indian and international experience between them. With the only crystalline waterproofing manufacturing unit in India, Kryton India has consistently delivered high quality products that are BIS Hallmarked, as well as being approved and recommended by Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Engineer’s India Limited (EIL) and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The consistent deliverance of quality is ensured through the ISO Certification, yearly qualification/audits and IS license. The governing factor at Kryton India has always been to give customised solutions. For two decades Kryton India has worked closely with architects, engineers, government organisations and realtors to bring them solutions based on Indian needs and conditions. Kryton India believes that there is no one-fits-all solution and the company prides itself in giving complete solutions as opposed to products.
